I'm sure that this is an old topic, and people are wondering why I'm bringing it up. I believe that there should be a way to access an uncensored version of the forum.
I also believe that people are exposed to much worse things, but for the people that honestly don't want to hear hear/see S***, then shouldn't there be a way to let certain people unfilter words? I'm sure many responsible, and mature people would agree with me, even if they don't necessarily share my beliefs.

Uh, no. There's no need to have a separate, uncensored section. Is all you want to do swear and tell dirty jokes? Classy, man. If it doesn't have a place in the forums already, it isn't worth having around. And if you want porn in the forums, just go to a0.com.

Things are censored because people in general are dumb, and cannot exercise the correct amount of self-restraint online (there are many psychological reasons why).
Think of it like laws; they are in place so people don't do stupid things. |

I don't want porn in the forums, and I never said I just wanted to swear and tell dirty jokes.
I just like to say certain words, and I like it better when people hear/see them. It makes me feel better. I don't like random outbursts like that one up there. I like making at least a 10th of a s*** of sence

Synth wants a family-friendly site given the age range of users who sign up to play the site. Therefore, he has swear filters and rules against NWS images.
a0.com has porn and no swear filters and other stuff like that because Arch frankly doesn't care. Hell, he does it himself. He has different goals in running his site than Synth does running his.

Kilga hit the nail on the head, and there is almost no more reason than that. This site has 13-18 year olds, and not everyone is exposed to that. We don't need to be the ones exposing them to it, and as Kilga said, that isn't the purpose of this site.
I have also found that 99% of the time, I can get a point across better WITHOUT it than i can with it. You people use it so much that it becomes the words/phrases: 'Oh', 'very', 'worse', 'messed up', 'in trouble', and even a comma. The english language has so many other words that it is sad that you people dont use them more. You all sound like idiots when it is the only verb, adverb, or adjective that you use. Your vocabulary needs an overhaul. |

Me, I use cursing once in awhile, and if someone really pisses me off, I normally curse more. However, like Cen said, they aren't needed. It is highly more pleasant to not say them rather than say them. I mean, heck, see? Point given, nothing needed.
No censorship of the forums is needed. Besides, that'd be like excluding people, and if people really want something, they'll just go search for the bloody thing. |

I look at it like this: 13 year olds can handle swearing. If they can't, then they shouldn't be on the internet. If they can't handle swearing, there's no way they'll be able to handle porn popups and emails.
I understand not allowing NWS pictures, but censoring profanity from teenagers makes no sense. I'm sure most teenagers swear more than adults anyway.

Tnyhwk, that is a big reason. Just because there is more swearing in this generation, doesn't mean you throw gasoline on the fire. Just because there IS more swearing, doesn't mean there SHOULD BE more swearing. In fact, that should be the reason why the filters should get more picky, so that we can cut down on the profanity epidemic, so that it isn't unbearable to a lot of this.
Besides, if profanity shows up more, more schools will ban FFR. |

Anyway, tny, fewer people would be on FFR if we were so liberal as to do away with swear filters. Plenty of kids have parental controls on, and we don't need to be keeping people away from this site just because some people wanted to do something that was completely unnecessary. Just because most teenagers will swear doesn't at all mean that people won't mind it. You have to consider the parent of the teenager as much as the teenager himself when you want to keep something family-friendly. And isn't swearing offensive by definition? There will always be people who don't like swearing, so, like Cen said, we don't need to be fueling the fire. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

I really don't get what the deal is with swear words are why they are considered so "bad" to some people.
They're just words, that are commonly used just for emphasis on something and people act as if it's something horrible. |

I say that either have none or all of the bases covered.
Until I petitioned for change, the "n-word" still appeared uncensored, quite often. Either censor all of the bad language, or none of it. Makes sense to me.
