Default Metal Pads

I want to get a metal pad for my system. I am currently looking at the RedOctane metal pad w/ the PC control box. Anybody have input on that combo? Is there a better combo? Is there a definitive "best under $300"? Thanks.

You can make your own for around 100.

Yeah, if you know how to solder connections, and the right ones at that.

I had the redoctane pad and didn't like it very much... the fiberglass buttons were arched a little and it required pressure in the center for it to register guaranteed all the time. On the other hand, evilpeer has it, uses it, and likes it, so I don't know what to tell you.

Currently I have a cobalt, and it is the shit. You might want to check eBay and see if there's anything there.

My redoctane works flawlessly.. except for the fact I now need new panels for it because the ones I have are cracked from overplay. Oh well, they still work anyways. I seriously recommend a cobalt flux though, because they're way more durable and probably have a more arcade feel anyways (red octane's panels aren't on different levels like arcade pads).

actually ep the buttons are all at the same level for the cobalt... but it is still > than the redoctane pad. if not for the simple fact that pump it up is impossible on the redoctane pad.

Pump is impossiable on the cobalt too, there's no middle.

Oh... I thought that middle panel worked as a button on the CF as well. I guess not.

So... cobalt flux is the way to go then, eh? Oh, for Hydrojakep and talisman - Pump is possible - there's a wooden block or something holding the center panel up - open it up, remove block, have another button. Or, so says this guy. It's quite a shell out, though.

What do you all suggest for connecting it to the PC (since they don't make a method for it already). Thanks.

oh I knew pump was possible... I've done it. hydrojakep seems to be the one misinformed here...

as far as adapters go (that's what connects it to the pc), I think there's a thread about them somewhere. I use a redoctane adapter, because it came with my old soft pad. It works just fine, but to play ddr in sm you have to use the code up + start +select once per boot. to play pump, no code is required, in fact with the code in pump won't work.

Yeh, I found that thread and PM'ed somebody who was going to find out. Though, if anybody finds out what adapters will work without a code, please post here as well.

hydro actually isn't so misinformed, maybe. It seems that the center button is fairly new, as per the CF website.
