I had a very interesting experience with Stepmania this morning. I tried starting it and the thing got stuck on Initializing Hardware. After tinkering with it for a while, checking my hardware profiles, checking my drivers, even reinstalling Stepmania I got the same problem. Strangest thing was I had been playing SM the night before with absolutely no problems and didn't find any anomalies when I had booted the computer, so I gave up and tried opening the SM on my sister's comp and got the exact same problem. At this point the only thing I could think was Stepmania doesn't just die over night does it? Well I grabbed a CD and did a clean install on my dad's laptop and got the same problem. I unistalled and went back to my computer and after a little thinking I decided to try one more thing. I knew it was a longshot but I changed the date on my comp back to December 30 and I was surprised to find that suddenly Stepmania started working again!
Has this happened to anyone else? Did your Stepmania take the day off this New Year's Eve?

I actually had some problems with rc2. I tried upgrading to it and found out none of my songs would load. So I uninstalled and dropped back down to alpha23.
