Default The underground double standard

In reality, the double standard between men and women, is abolutely ubelievable. Ironically, one of the few to speak out about this, were pop artists and r&b/hip-hop artists, which, is essentially the root of the problem. A male, who sleeps with a lot of women, would typically be considered higher social rank in his group, sometimes nicknamed obtruse words, like 'playa' and 'pimp' 'mack daddy' etc etc etc. But, what makes this society so unbelievably currupt, is that if a women does the same, she is labeled words like 'whore' 'slut' 'tramp' etc etc. Now, some women, have noticed this, but take a different approach to it. instead of stopping this socolical problem, they contribute to it, by stooping down do the males level, and becoming a 'playa' and 'pimp'. See, why dont we just call the males 'whores' as well, and root out this unbelievable fiasco by not reproducing with them. people have mentioned it, many times, but always either ignored it, or contributed to it. whatever happened to the 1930's "let's wait until we get married" belief? is it the growing athesm of the world, and the always longing to 'spite your parents' ? Either way, this trend has to end. personally, it's sickening to me. But, obviously, society chooses to let this to continue, so i guess i have to either live alone, or find some religious person believes in the same. I dont believe there is anything else i can say about it, because it's the way society is moving in general. And because of these artists prodominant figure in today's music and life, people will pretty much lemming whatever they do and say no matter how obsene and odd it is. Look around, and tell me if i'm lying. It's helps the overall economy, but seems to be shattering everything we used to hold dear in our morals in life. in conclusion, it's time somthing has to be done, we need other smart people to just say no. think about what will happen when aids spreads more? it'll be a killing machine, only because of our foolish choices we make now.

//disclaimer// i'm not religious, more of the common sense morals. when you thinking about it, i guess this makes the world come more together.. but not in the way i want it to be.

Well for one.. it's easier for women to get laid than it is for men... on average. It's usually the woman who needs convincing before she wants to have sex. Men normally aren't the ones who have to decide "Well I guess it's time for us to start having sex with each other now at this point in our relationship."

If a man wants sex, he's not necessarily going to get it. However, if a woman chooses to give herself up to plenty of people, she's probably not going to be turned down as a man would. So, it's not necessarily a double standard..

The reason there is an *almost* double-standard is because you have two different groups, and in each group the individuals are judged by they peers.

In the male group, striving for dominance and women has been a long-standing tradition dictated by hormones. Therefore, a male is considered "ripped" if he is physically dominant, "cool" if he is socially dominant, and a "playa" if he gets women. The slang terms and the importance of each area shifts over the generations, but the actual goals and the respect or hate that achievement can earn has always been the same. For example, I'll refer back to the 50s. Do you remember the Greasers? People like Fonzie (from Happy Days) were socially dominant and won over women, so they received a hefty amount of respect from the their peers. However, to counter this, monks also receive great respect because they are so devoted to their religion that they forsake all three goals and live simply.

The female group is different. Since the dawn of civilization and beyond, a male has been required to "win over" a female before he receives her love. When a female is coerced easily with a flex of a muscle or even money, she is considered "slutty" or a "whore" (sometimes literally). The male has always had to earn the love of a female, so in this case giving love freely is considered a form poor sportsmanship and poor morals. Although the lines have been blurred a bit over the years, males and females still adhere to rigid rules and expectations for how to perform in society. There is no double standard here, this is just a core part of human civilization. The system of courting began before we even evolved into fish and lasts to this day as a simple but powerful guideline to gender interaction.

However, I do agree with you that society still holds dearly to several double-standards and hypocrisies that we could do without, but courtship is not a double-standard.

This little comment of yours is highly offensive in your condescending manner towards men (which you used several times) and my further comments aren't appropriate for posting.

Oh yeah, and I think that you really are lying through a lack of full depiction and proper clarity about the mechanisms in society and how it has developed in recent decades. I need to finish this post, but let me just say that in recent times we've admitted and accepted the life we've always been living, even if we don't embrace it as much as we say we do.

Yeah, affirmative action and sexual harassment policies are perfect examples.

amen xaimus. girls may be sluts in high school or college... but in the workplace, its the guys getting slapped with sexual harassment lawsuits left and right.

or look at Title-9 (google it if you don't know what it is). IMO, its bs. its a fact that male sports bring in more money for a school, so why shouldn't there be more of them with bigger budgets. Title-9 hasn't changed that fact... its just made it so that less money is spent on male sports in exchange for female sports. Also, which needs more money to operate? football or girl's volleyball?

I've gotta say that I understand neo's stuff! I personally am not sexually active so I can't really speak to any of what aedak is saying but I do get where he and neo are comin from. I think that women and men are treated differently. In many ways they are in their own ceprate places when discussing this topic but all being humans they can be viewed as same group. I think its kinda scary where we are being led, that is into a sex filled pop culture. All the popular people appear to be having active sexual relationships and of course most people follow this "trend" if you will and become sexually active. I'm not sure if its more men or women at this point in my life but its happening. I am also not religous but I have a stable moral platform to base all of what I'm saying of. I guess this is kinda incomplete... but I lost my train of thought

I'll come back and post if I think of more to add!

I actually feel that that is not offensive at all. The average person is not every person, but there still is that average person. The average person is a sad thing, even in America, and that is only the average. We call them the "masses" and more people are part of it than you think.

All those people who drive WAY too fast on the freeway, weaving in and out. How much time do they save? 5 to 10 minutes? How much more danger to they put themselves in? How much of their life are they putting at risk? 30 years or more? This is only one of the ways that people are stupid, not looking at the situation. You might want to ask them "what were you thinking?" The problem is that they werent thinking at all, and more that 3 out of 4 people don't think. It is just another way to get ahead, yet they arent looking at what they might possibly be leaving behind.

The men that that quote was referring to was not evey man, but those that are part of the masses. 3 out of 4 men give men a bad name. When people talk about men, they are just talking about what they see every day, and with more men like that than men not like it, it is easy to generalize.

Even being male, that quote does not offend me. I know that if that person were to know ME specifically, they wouldnt be including me in that statement. Even if I literally was included. Heck, I say the exact same thing, that 'men are testerone driven idiots'. But what I mean is that 'MOST men are testerone driven idiots'.

I think race on race differences are more of a problem then men and women differences.

Ah, don't you love justice? To be honest, I don't believe in the women's rights movements because of the very fact that if they get too many rights, men fall behind. That is not the point of the whole thing. It's equality. Even then, women and men are different both physiologically and psychologically (it has been scientifically proven that men tend to think in terms of logic and women in terms of social matters. This is NOT a stereotype, it is an acknowledged fact), so why should they be treated the same? I do believe that men and women should be treated differently based on the majority physiological and psychological abilities and lack of abilities.

Back on topic: Better double standard. Forcing men to sign up for the draft. Only men. I thought this was equality. "Oh, but the women might get pregnant and it could hurt the baby." So there is a difference and you want them treated differently? Apparantly so.

As for affirmative action, it is screws up the maximum revenue of a business, just because women get paid lower wages than men. On that topic, why ISN'T it fair that women are paid less for a higher risk of being out of the job longer. Women are more suseptable to disease and the whole pregnancy thing can just throw productivity right out the window. So why shouldn't they be paid less, especially if they are a revenue risk? Equality! We treat men the same way, especially if they have medical histories that would show some signs of having to leave. This is equal. Get used to it.

I disagree Cenright. I would say I weave in and out of traffic, because I live in DC when I'm not in college.. and if aren't agressive here you will never get anywhere.. I am by no means a maniacal driver, I am in complete control when I drive. I do think when I drive.

Here goes my traffic rant and pet peeves:

Yes, driving to me is a competition against the clock, how much time can I save while still keeping myself and others safe. Saving 5-20+ minutes a day does matter. How many minutes does that save in a lifetime... A lot. I do not like to waste time, sitting in traffic is a waste of time. People who drive under the speed limit are wasting everyone's time. Non-Virginians driving in our state our wasting our time. Most of these drivers are way too passive and are actually the ones who cause the most accidents.

i.e.: The soccer dad from Pennsylvania who drives a minivan 50 mph in a 65 mph zone right in the middle lane.

Problem? Yes, impeding traffic. He's also slowing down the traffic behind him.. you should always be keeping up with the flow of traffic, even if that's 7 miles over the speed limit... I don't know about where you are all from, but in Virginia this is an unspoken rule... and oh man there are a lot of them.

Biggest problem of all: The same minivan soccer dad who feels the need to leave 100 yards between him and the car in front of him. If someone changes lanes in front of him, he slams on his brakes. If he sees a hill coming up, he slams on his brakes. These are serious problems and cause many more accidents than you might think. Statistically speaking, these so-called "cautious" drivers are causing more problems and accidents than the ones, as you so elequently put it, "weave in and out of traffic."

Edit: Another neat statistic... On average, women are the cause of more accidents.

uhhhh first, i would like to say, that yes, i'm a man, not some feminist 'OMG KILL MEN THEY KILL ME WATCH OXYGEN LIFETIME' [couldnt resist ] i'm just a deep thinker, which is why i posted on this board. I let my mind think, not my penis. It was an essay i wrote, which almost got suspended for at school, because of the belief that 'omg.. women = whore??!?!? suspended!' [women teacher, should've known -_-] i think, that the few who want to fix this, and care enough about our kids, to. but, i'm more of a shadow type of person, choosing to speak his mind, only when he wants to. dont make me get started on the america gay rights bush thing... mixing religion and state is why our forefathers ran away from england... maybe it's getting to that time where we too, need to run away to found a 'neoamerica' [no pun intended] to get what george washingion and the others fought the british for. I, for one, have old tradition beliefs, whether it be my family tries to oppress religion and some of it sank in, or the fact that i think about everything before i do it. if this thread starts massive controversey, good. at least more people will read it, think about it, then think twice before what they say or do . anyway, i'm out, going to go play some ffrness [4f73r m3 = god].

P.S.: thanks rdrew4, i'm glad that i'm not just rambling on about things others cannot relate to. (i'm 17 years old, and viewing everything i write about in a very large highschool, dont think i'm a 40 year old man in his underwear ranting over the world while watching mtv)

edit: yes, i'm new on the boards, i'm more of a reader than a typer, but when i do type, i type a loooooooooot

Eh, it's worth a small comment. The original goal of seperating church and state is meant to create stability. It is okay that Bush has religion in his life- we all do, but he isn't the leader of the Catholic church or anything. That's what seperation of church and state is. It's not seperation of religion and government, it's seperation of organized religion/power structures and government power structures. Bush may be vocal about it, but it doesn't violate seperation of church and state. Honesty should be valued in politics.

It is constitutional to vote for homosexual marriage. I don't know what's so hard to believe about that. It's also constitutional to ban the sale of liquor in the US, and it's been done. It's just hard to pull off.
