making a stepfile...

Ok, don't count me off as a newb, I know how to make stepfiles, and I read the thing here on how to make them, but DANG IT'S COMPLICATED!!!!! And I just don't have that type of time. So does anybody know where I can get a program to make the simlies that dosn't force make to type it out in a text document?

no, I would like to MAKE them, stepmania is a program to play them. And just to make sure I didn't sound nooby, I browsed all corners of the site for a development program and I couldn't find one. Thanks anyway...

you still sound n00by. use stepmania... instead of playing.. scroll down to Edit/Sync. you make stepfiles there.

hmm, I thought about that but then I thought that it wouldn't recognize the file unless there was a stepfile associated with it. So now I'm gonna go try that, thanks 4 the help. I'll post again if it dosn't work, but if you feel like it then lock this I think it's done.

nope it didn't work, do I need something other then the MP3 in the folder becuase that's all I put.

ok new idea, could somebody just post the total basic coding of a stepfile so SM will recognize it so I can make the steps? I would majorly appriciate it.

You need a .dwi file. Make it in Notepad - to save it, select "All Files" and put .dwi into the file name manually.

#TITLE

song title);
#ARTIST

song artist);
#BPM:000.000;
#GAP:0;
#SAMPLESTART:000.000;
#SAMPLELENGTH:00.000;

These fields are required. Fill them in as necessary.

you didn't even need to have that... just put a blank notebad document in the folder with the song and it should do it on its own... but you got it so ... yeah!

ddristhecoolest: To your signature, "my only FFR suggestion: MAKE THE SIMFILES COMPATIBLE WITH MOZILLA!!!!", well, you need to get Firefox, also by Mozilla. It works great, without a large installation or any uneccesary features you'll never use, unless you want them. Oh, yeah, and FFR runs beautifully on it, too. http://www.getfirefox.com

Try downloading XStep, works for me. I make simfiles all the time, but I don't release them (thinkin' about it =), I have a joke sim foscused around an 80's song)
I THINK thats what you mean by make.... you need the mp3 though (WinMX) , and Winamp to find the rouge BPM (or Mixmeister, but its only a free trial). If you have enough space on your compy, I'd recomend doing this. If not, ignore this reply and yell at me...

EDIT: Holy sheet, I look like a n00b! 77 posts only!? =/ I haven't posted in a while, but I've been playing FFR and SM since August, I'm very un-n00b...

yeah, I already have firefox, and no, the simfiles don't work with it. Have you ever tried? it downloads an empty corrupted zip file...but just to be sure I'm going to try right now....nope, still down... great...best part of this site has been down for a month...

oh and Piroteknix, I tried Xstep and I don't like it, I think I'll just stick to stepmania. Is there ANY way to import the banner for a song into stepmania? (the banner is the picture that shows up on the song selection screen, in case anybody's confused lol)
