I LOVE prime numbers!!! No, seriously, I do; I am a math nerd. I told my girlfriend yesterday that I wanted to see a graph of my AIM message lengths as a function of time. I'm currently reading a book on imaginary numbers, and have read the biography of the number zero. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

I hate math, sorry.
I bet a lot of people on FFR do too, I mean hell, if these people go so crazy over simple English corrections... |

Loving math and loving and respecting good English grammar are by no means mutually exclusive. I am proof of that.

Yea.. i like math also.. I don't go ape shit over it.. but it's better than any form of english, science, or history...
But when I open the program "sb" and i try to enter "Team FFR" as the team name it say's something like "invalid team name", but i know its the correct spelling and everything cause I joined team FFR on the website.. So I don't know whats up with that..

Since the team name needs to be alphanumeric in the program, take out the space.
Okay, so the number one team has six hundred fifty-six members, of which only five hundred seventy-nine have done anything, and only about a hundred were active yesterday. We can do this. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

87x- Enter "FFR" into the blank instead of "Team FFR".

Bwahahahaha, running it takes my performance to 50% only. This is while I'm using Opera and a whole slew of tabs for some stuff and constantly downloading files as well.
Entering "TeamFFR" as the team works as well. I hope we don't end up having an "FFR" and a "Team FFR" competing against eachother unbeknownst to us all. ~Squeek |

yea.. that program maxs out your cpu usage.. i had to setup a fan facing my comp.. cause it sets in wooden desk hole thing, surrounded on all four sides by wood... so i opened the cabinet drawer and put a fan there to cool it down some...
Thanks for the help on the team name, even though that doesn't really matter much as long as you have it setup on the website that you belong to a certain team thats where your stats will go.. after you turn it off, when you turn it back on.. does it go bacvk to the very beginning??... like i was at 15 or so blocks last night before i went to sleep, and i left it running, then my step dad turned it off when he got on in the morning, now its running again and im back at 0 blocks.. just wondering about that

87x - Here's what I think the program does.
You download "blocks" of numbers to check to verify their prime-ness. Every block you download is a few hundred or so numbers, or maybe just one really really big number. As the program scans the number(s) to see if it (they) are prime, it displays a percentage to tell you how far it's gotten. Upon completetion, it returns true or false to their server for that number and you get a new one. Then that's one block. I'd assume whenever you turn your computer off, the block # resets, but you've sent the data to the server so it doesn't matter. Team FFR still gets credit. ~Squeek PS - Just downloading the program isn't enough, so I've found out. You also have to go to the site and login (you should have given your proper e-mail when first using the program) using the password sent to your email. Then go to "Preferences" and look for Team Affiliation. Click the link and find "Team FFR" to join our awesome team of math idiots. PPS - You don't have to be a math person to do this. Really all you need is a decent computer to run this program. By doing so, you're helping mankind solve some mysteries and helping FFR win some useless contest! |
