Why do people, judge other guys for crying, does it make them seem weak, or less of a man to cry, how would it matter, i dont understand why so many people wont cry, because there scared of the reaction from other people, i mean my friends say shit about me crying, but it doesnt bother me, because when i do, its about somthing important to me.

Well, it depends what you are crying about.
If you are crying because you didnt get the BMW you wanted for your 16th birthday, you are a spoiled little bitch. If you are crying because someone put onions on your burger when you speficially asked them to "hold them," you are a whinny little bitch. If you are crying because you didnt get an A on your final, you are a whinny perfectionist. If you are crying because someone made fun of you clothes, you have low selfesteem. But crying isnt all bad...it is good to let out frustation/anger and can also show a sign of extreme joy. |

"You cry when you do long division and have a remainder left over!" - Bart Simpson, to Milhouse
If you are legitimately emotionally affected by something there's nothing to be ashamed about crying about. Now the real question is, what kinds of things emotionally affect you so? See Jewpin's post. |

To me, crying isn't a sign of being weak or anything like that. Jewpin is absolutely correct with his first post on this topic. He made me lol.
I ususally cry when I'm very very frustrated. Those are usually the only times.

I broke my leg in eighth grade, both bones in my lower leg broke at an 118 degree angle, split the skin, no tears.
Three of my great-grandparents have passed away since I have been old enough to know the difference, they were all cool, no tears. I've had several break-ups in my life, several of which were reeeeally bad, no tears. I'm not bragging or anything, i think crying is good, i just never do it. Like i said, i have no idea why. |

I almost never cry from emotion. I have never cried over a girl or any other person, for that matter. The only time I cry is in extreme pain, and that doesn't happen often.

Only time I cry is when I break a bone or fracture something, really bad sprain, etc. and stuff like that.
I have never cried out of happiness. Don't think I ever will. |

I cry when ever there is something that seriously affects me emotionally, when I'm EXTREMELT frustrated (pretty much only my mom can put me that far), or when I'm in extreme pain. And usually when it's the pain one, I try to hold it in. But that only makes it hurt more. But on the plus side. it makes it feel all that much better to actually let it go.

I'm not one to cry, as I'm not a very emotional person. That's just my nature; I rarely have anything to be upset about. I've cried four times since I was ten or so. Two of the times were when my grandfather died and when my dog died. Now, to get back to the point (and integrate the relevance of the last two times I cried), I always look weird at guys when they cry for a reason that I deem stupid or ridiculous. I'm sure whatever they cry about is really important to them, but if I don't get it, Imma think "What the hell dude, you look like a crybaby pussy", or something along those lines. As I am not an emotional person, I expect everyone else to be that way as well, which is why I look weird at guys who cry.
So, regarding the manliness issue... I think men crying at [what I deem] frivolous things is just out of character. I don't think it makes you any less manly to cry, as most of us do, did, or will, but to do so in front of others can betray the image of you that most likely includes some degree of staunchness and stoicism that is usually attributed to men. Crying is something that women do (according to popular sentiment and generalizations), so doing so, as a man, will make you look generally more womanly, and womanly men don't get the utmost respect from society. That's where I think most jeering comes from. Deaths in the family are always legitimate reasons for anyone to cry. After that, it can get hazy. Love of your life things are usually acceptable (after all, being in love is EXTREMELY powerful), but pretty much anything past that is overly emotional and thereby not characteristic of manliness. Now, why did I cry the other two times? As I said before, deaths in the family are acceptable reasons for anyone to cry, so why did I wait to mention the others? Well, because I cried the first two times I watched the ending to Saber Marionette J. Yes, the ending to an anime made me cry not once, but twice. Being as how I thoroughly understand when I think it's acceptable to cry, and that I'm a very unemotional person, does that make watching the ending to a girly anime a decent reason to cry? Absolutely not. I'm certain that if I walked in on myself crying like that, I'd point and laugh at myself. Getting around to the other point of discussion of the thread, why did I cry at that? Hell if I know. It was sad, but I've seen much sadder stuff and shed nary a tear. Things are weird like that. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

ive never cried out of happiness. I have always associated crying with pain so it just doesn't feel right to cry out of happiness. If you are crying for a valid reason (like situations that have been previously stated) its ok, but if it's because you are as Jewpin says "a whiny little bitch" then I'm going to question you.
