As a family, we've bought a TV, guitar, phone, and a couple of other random things. As long as the seller has good rep, go for it.

i've been using ebay for years. never -really- had any issue as long as you check the vendors and their reputation.
i've bought thousands of $$ worth of games and only 1 has not worked

As others have said it all depends on sellers reputation. Percent feedback is a good thing to go by, checking what people say is good too.
I've probably bought about 50 things off there and I've only had 1 issue. |

I've gotten great deals on ebay. Just make sure you read the descriptions fully and stick to trusted sellers.

The only time I was disapointed with my purchase on eBay is if I didn't look well enough on the pictures beforehand or didn't contact the seller to make sure about a detail I wanted to clarify (this is really something you should do prior to purchasing anything if you're ever in doubt!)
But yeah, I'm buying stuff almost exclusively on eBay since 2010 and so far not a single problem, everyone's nice and all. ![]() |

it must be hard to look at a seller's reputation to determine whether or not u trust purchasing something from them, eh?

Like everyone else here says, yes eBay is usually pretty awesome (assuming you read up on the items and don't buy from someone with terrible rep).
I've personally never been disappointed with any items I've gotten through the site, and generally people are pretty understanding and nice about things.

Move to the other side of the border and things will change. Suddenly you will have to be aware of things such as "we will not ship outside of the US" that drive international bidders mad. The reason why so many US sellers refuse to sell outside of their own borders is due to eBay's own policy: go below a certain rating percentage, and you will be penalized as a seller. That being said, a lot of mishaps on shippings come from sending items to international locations. Because eBay puts so much pressure on seller ratings, many sellers will not even risk having international bidders on their auctions.
There was one unfortunate situation where I never got the item the seller sent me, and I was unable to get my money back on Paypal. Another item broke on transit with a different seller. That's pretty much it. Other than that, I get a lot of nice things from eBay. |

@bmah: Have you tried www.ebay.ca? My experience (with looking for things that are extremely rare, or links from friends in other countries) is that when you view the version specific to a country or region, ebay only lists things that ship to the country of that version of the site (the default www.ebay.com being US based).
On the one hand it can be frustrating finding that rare thing I have been looking for that only ships to France, but on the other hand it is good for filtering by what will ship to your location.

I don't bother with ebay.ca, because guess what? There's hardly any variety there haha.
Every item I would ever want is almost always in the states. (I collect rare stuff, so there's very little selection for Canada) |

Heh, that figures.
Another option I have heard of (but not tried or experienced) is parcel forwarding services, where you pay an additional fee to a forwarding business in a country the seller will ship to, ship the item to them, and they ship it to you. Cannot personally vouch for it, but I have heard good things (from another collector in Canadia) if you are willing to pay the additional cost, which can vary from place to place.
