please give me a fully detailed explanation as to why we cannot step remixes of songs that artists (we currently have permission for) have made, because I seriously think that's dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Artist A acquires permission from Artist B to remix a song.
We acquire Artist A's permission to step their songs, but don't acquire Artist B's. The work was the original creative property of Artist B, therefore we don't have the right to use it. I guess. Last edited by Mourningfall; 03-11-2013 at 08:45 AM.. |

What's the song in question? That might make it a bit easier to shed light on the issue.

It's the fact that permission really only extends to the person who created the song/mp3 in question. |

I'm not friends with law, I don't study it and I never have.
I was trying to come to a logical conclusion based off Razors post, and now that you say this, I don't even understand why this is a thread anymore. If FFR has the permissions from the respective artist he wants to chart; it's fair game, remix or not. Right? |

If it's remixed by someone else whom we don't have permission for, then we need to ask permission from him/her.
Simply put, it's a different artist, so you need to ask permission for the use of his/her song. The song's origins have no bearing on assuming its permission. Last edited by bmah; 03-11-2013 at 04:07 PM.. |

If we don't have Artist A's permission (referring to my first post), this thread's pointless.

Well yeah.
If we got permission for Zedd for example, it wouldn't mean that we'd have full access to the hundreds of Clarity remixes available. |

So yeah. As Layne points out, while a few files have managed to slip through the cracks, Silence being probably the most famous example, the overarching policy is right there. Twice. (edit: fixed the phrasing in Mourning's post)
