A quick question concerning stepmania 3.9

Okay, I've actually always wondered about this and today I got so annoyed I just had to ask...

So I'm playing like normal and suddenly I hear this sound saying something and a sprite appears from the right side of the screen:



WTF is this and why does it appear? I've many times ruined my combo when I get surprised by this stupid character.

go to options > gameplay options and turn easter eggs off. it's called a Toasty and occurs when you first hit 250 consecutive perfects/marvelouses in a song, and i find it highly annoying lol

That's referred to as a "toasty"

It's a pre-programmed thing essentially made to pop out once a song, randomly after you reach 250 combo. It will only go off if your current combo is over 250.
Different themes have different toasties of different level of annoyance/shock. They're made to mess you up lol

Lol, thanks for info.

Though I doubt it occurs at 250(?) cos it's pretty rare to happen and I go over 250 combo pretty much in all the files I tend to play often. Could be the 250 perfect/marvelous because my accuracy is terrible (always getting them greats).

edit. And I can't spell either at this time of the night.

It could be a programming glitch, but sometimes the toasty occurs later at a higher combo. I think if you hit a jump/hand/quad, it might miss the 250 counter and you won't see the toasty till you reach around 500 or so (or more if that detection was missed).

I think once you hit 250, it chooses a random point in time afterward. Although I think gnr's right, in that it's not in combo, but 250 consecutive perf/marv.

Toasties occur after 250 consecutive (ridic/)marv/perfect combos. It can occur at a higher in-game combo in the instance of receiving a great before the toasty.

Think of the toasty as a counter. If you receive a (ridic) marvelous or perfect, the counter drops by 1. If you get a great, the counter resets to 250. If you get the counter to 0, the toasty image appears. This is the same reason how you can have multiple toasties on a game in StepMania Online -- it counts the number of instances you receive 250 marvs/perfs in a row. You will only see one in-game as an indication, but you can possibly receive more than one in a single song.
