![]() The Mosquito noise is a high pitch sound that is undetectable to some and can be heard by others. Typically you lose the ability to hear higher pitched frequencies with age. It was originally used as a way to ward of teens and youth in Europe but then it was argued it went against Human Rights to do this.
I put together a series of 12 YouTube videos with the sound playing at increasingly higher pitches. I showed it to everyone at work and it was pretty interesting. Some could hear it almost to the end and one of my bosses couldn't even hear it at the lowest level (although it was irritating his wife as the video played). Personally, I can hear it up to around 17 khz. How far you can go before you stop hearing it? |

![]() Can faintly hear 18khz, 19khz is dead to me. I remember when the 'mosquito' ringtones were available years ago. Interesting enough, I'm almost 27 and could still hear the 18khz, good to know my ears are working younger than expected.

![]() I can hear up to 16khz; not really picking up anything from 17khz on. Guess my ears aren't working young, ayappa =w=

![]() 16 is clear to me (although soft). I feel like there is something at 17khz, but it may just be me imagining the sound at that point. Looks like I have not so well hearing :<

![]() I hear something at 19 and 18, but 17 is silent. 16's okay, so I'll say 16 for now, stupid airplanes.

![]() I couldn't hear 12, guess that's what I get for working at a Dragstrip and loving live shows without ear protection.
P.S. I'm only 19.

![]() I find it's really interesting the different fluctuations everyone can hear - but how about your ages? As said in the video, I am 24 and can hear up to about 17 khz apparently.

![]() EDIT: Nevermind, I couldn't hear over 16 because my audio wasn't loud enough. I was able to hear up to 19, with *barely* being able to register 20 kHz. It's strange though, my hearing was never that good (I have slight asymmetrical hearing loss, mostly due to my right ear), guess that applied to lower pitches especially since the test didn't cover the super-high frequency Mosquito noises. Glad to know my hearing isn't shot.
