How do I stop sucking
I've been trying to improve at FFR, people suggest I should try harder songs, so I try playing one and this happens.
This is exactly the same skill I had one year ago. No matter how much I practice, be it at VCs or FGOs, I just can't get better at this game. What am i doing wrong? |

inb4 sexual innuendo
Practice edit to actually say something that isn't short: Practice on a level you feel comfortable with, build up your speed, and move to the next level. But it's not gonna happen over night. |

Keep playing! One score isn't enough to determine if you have improved or not.
And you aren't doing anything wrong. |

Re: How do I stop sucking
Analyze where you miss and why, figure out what you're doing wrong/why you don't have enough speed/if you're lagging or something
When you have better PA, analyze the parts you can't get all perfects, and why (slowly building up your PA to a level where you can AAA 8's, and then analyze sections in 8's and harder that you can't PA properly) |

Re: How do I stop sucking
Shit, I just noticed the innuendo.
Thing is, I haven't improved in A YEAR, even though I play the game (practice) at least five hours per week, is improving supposed to be that slow? |

Re: How do I stop sucking
I improved really slowly at first
Skill jumps seemed to come after I took breaks from the game and came back, maybe that's what you need Anyways, if you've analyzed how you play and what you're doing wrong when you play a certain song, that's the first step to fixing it. |

Would you mind sharing your key setup (The keys you use to play ffr) and if you play ffr one-handed, spread, index, or whatever?

You could also try tinkering with a few things, like your speedmod, key set-up, or how your hands are positioned. Either way though, it takes time to improve.

Re: How do I stop sucking
The more I analyze a part the worse I get at it, I remember AAAing some patterns sightread but then getting mindblocks after a few plays trying to concentrate on them.

Re: How do I stop sucking
that is VERY common in ffr, don't feel discouraged by that at all. In fact, I have mindblocks all over the place and that + laziness are all that's keeping my AAA count down XD. Don't think your scores are bad, man. In fact, just the fact that you can pass things like Perfect Cherry Storm without mashing it shows that you are considerably better at rhythm games than the majority of people.

Maybe get a better keyboard or give stepmania a try. SM is where a lot of people improve their pa. Also a lot of ffrers tend to play everyday to make sure they don't get a skill drop, so if you're dedicated go for it. You'll see improvements in 1 week - 1 month

Re: How do I stop sucking
lol, at first I kept thinking you meant io and the 9 and + that aren't on the num. pad for a minute. still, that's a very unique setup. have you ever tried as56? askl and as;' are also pretty popular from what I understand. personally, I play on as56 x1.8.

Re: How do I stop sucking
This. I literally went from barely FC'ing low 10's to "OMFG, I can FC Southern Cross & Black Key Etude" overnight. whoever says getting a new keyboard doesn't work is lying.
Right now I'm just playing Emerald Sword (180bpm stream) on SM an hour a day to improve my speed. Stepmania has really boosted my PA x_x |

Re: How do I stop sucking
edit: Move to something faster, like Pink Fuzzy Bunnies (On SMG Pack) or playing songs with higher rates (KBC2's Gleam In The Dark 1.3). Last edited by Shikari; 01-14-2012 at 01:03 PM.. |
