xanderman2064: by the time the future becomes the past, we don't realize it. It''s a constantly flowing river.
california_karate_girl : and the present is the water always moving so that it is never realized the present is what we have now that is why we dont realize what itis until it is a memory that we must cling to |

I am actually very aware of the present, and past.
As for the future, I have to wait until it becomes the present. This isn't saying much other than that I am not chronopsychic.

Believe me, you are very aware of the future too, but you're not only aware of one future, but of many different possible futures.
You are quite certain that you will wake up tomorrow, for example. |

there is no present, because by the time you have observed the present it is already in the past.

But the point being made is we only realize the present when it is a memory in the past. I honestly am unsure. It rocked my boat and now I need some time to think. Course, same chick said she was desperate to fall in love because "everyone else is doing it." As for being aware of the future, it's a toss up. You know about what is possible, but nothing absolute. Like the decision between apple juice and orange juice with your breakfast. You know that there are two futures, one of them tastes like oranges, the other like apples. What you don't know is if someone spills the juice or any other decisions that come from the choice you made. Ahhhh...rambling again. Thanks for not killing me for my persistance on this topic.

As I refered to in a previous thread...internet slang is good when used to make writing EFFICIENT. Not for stupid things like "Rolling on floor laughing rolling on floor laughing rolling on floor laughing etc." I also hate to put people down, so I'll just tell you to leave the critical thinking forums for critical thinking. Nonsense goes in the trash bin.

Sorry for the repost. It may be a prediction, but a prediction is an awareness of possible events in the future.

A prediction is a guess at what might happen, based on previously occuring events.
Theres no looking into the future at all. It's guessing from experience.

yep. some people have really vivid guesses, though, and their mind shows them the predictions in the form of brief visual interludes - visions. we call these people psychics, but their guesses are still just guesses with alot more cooperation from the brain's part. they see something happen and their mind goes "oh i think this'll happen - here lemme show you".
deja vu is somehow connected to this, i'm sure. it's like george carlin once said: "a lady once came up and asked me 'do you know what time it is?' and i replied '... what, now or when you asked me? this shit is moving, you know.'" |

I think of time as something you could graph. Lets say we have a point on this "graph of time" for today (I understand that time flows in seconds, milliseconds, etc. but lets just go by days to make things simpler). Now, tomorrow, we will be on a new point on this "graph of time", but that doesn't mean that the point for today will just completely vanish. It will still be there, although none of us will consciously be aware of it. So in turn, all the days. years, mileniums, etc. prior to today still exist. We just cant see them because we are at a different point in time.

OR since time is not a natural occurance, and is just a tool created by man to know when starbucks opens, everything you said about there being existing points in time - all crap.
sh!t is HERE. it's doing sh!t, and it'll keep doing sh!t until sh!t dies. that's it. it's not all that complicated if you rip the hands off the clock and just stare at the face. EDIT: okay i just thought of a really simple way to think of existence without screwin with your mind over the whole incriments of time thing. take the smallest incriment of time possible, however far down into the milli's or deca's or quadridupa's you have to go to find it, just take one of them, and stretch it across from the beginning of time to whenever the end of time may be. just a really long incriment of time, stretched out. that way, nothing is separated, and there is no past, and there is no future. there's just present, and what you wanna do. |

That's the point I made in posto numero uno, NeoDarkHeart. Thank you...I didn't know how to clarify. Duration should be considered to be all present. This little chat I had with a crazy girl taught me that. It's all present, past and future. Only problem is that the present moves to fast to measure, so we measure what happened previously in order to measure what will happen next. I don't know if that made sense, it barely does to me...oh, wait, there it goes. I lost myself. Thanks for wasting your time on me...again.

You can't say that time was created to let us know when statrbucks opens because you cant creat time. Time has and always will exist, and so will past, present, and future, just because we named it time doesnt mean that it wouldnt exist if we didnt name it.

Time can't have always existed. It's set up with the past, present, and the future, so how can the past stretch back forever? It has to have a beginning. Time is a flowing river, but it sure keeps us in some narrow banks.
But it is there whether we like it or not. |

I was just quoting Secret of Mana in a slightly relevant way.
There was no real meaning to my post. At all.
