Poll: Engine of Choice
I am curious for a number of reasons which engine people use. This is a timely subject now that Velocity engine finally has MP!
I'd like for you to post why you use the engine you chose, and if there are any problems with the other engine (i.e. severe lag on one of them) that prevents you from using it. I might as well go first: While there's nothing wrong with the legacy engine for me, I use Velocity because of the powerful song sorting options and because of noteskins. My apologies if a thread similar to this already exists, I checked quickly and couldn't find one.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
I find the velocity engine has a lot less lag problems. Plus the song sorting and note skin options are a huge positive.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
Legacy no doubt. Even though Velocity's engine have many great features and Velocity did a great job, I can't get myself to transition from an engine that I've been playing for years. I don't think I plan on switching to Velocity's engine at all since I love the Legacy Engine haha.

Legacy is so bad :/
I bet the majority of forum people play on Velocity cause they're actually informed about it. Most non-forumers probably still use legacy. |

Legacy, the noteskins on Velo's engine are either too big or small for me to be able to switch over. I'm just used to Legacy anyways, and it's nostalgic somewhat.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
Velocity, if i play wither in browser it lags like a piece of shit, standalone can run like shit too, and crash at times.
oh and they both look ugly overall, new engine needed.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
Velo engine because its easier to transition back and forth between SM, legacy engine is weird since the receptors are too close making everything kind of a pain to read.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
Velocity on standalone.
I would be using Legacy in-browser (my old playstyle was 1.5/screencut until about 2 months ago) but that's been way too laggy for me, had to switch to Velocity because that's the only one that doesn't lag. Otherwise I would still be using Legacy.

Re: Poll: Engine of Choice
I use the legacy engine for the simple reason that I have been playing on it for years before Velocity came out with his engine. It's more familiar to me, and I'm more comfortable with it...heck, I still look for songs with the genre wheel sometimes. (I do like the idea of sorting songs by file difficulty instead of by music genre, as many of the offshoot engines have done, though I can see how both methods would have their supporters and detractors.)
While the Velocity engine has a lot of bells and whistles that help with specific songs, mainly background files that demand arrows with greater visibility (I owe my LoZ AAA to that time where backgrounds were bugging out on it, as well as my 11-0-0-1 on P4U v2), in the end the Legacy engine is like pulling on an old pair of jeans for me. It's comfortable and it fits well, even if it is starting to show its age. |
