Default Questions regarding movies in Stepfiles

i've seen it done before, so i know it's possible, but there are a couple things i dont know.

1) does it have to be a certain file type, or can SM use several different kinds?
2) what all do i have to do to make the movie play? just so Add Background change and say to start movie or something like that? i've never really worked with background changes or movies before, so i'm not sure
3) as long as it is small enough, am i allowed to upload the stepfile with the movie to the FFR database? not having the movie really reduces the hilarity of the thing, so i'd want it to have the movie included, and i may have to find a different site to upload to if i cant have the movie with it

thanks in advance for answering any of these questions

Stepmania only accepts AVIs encoded with DivX.

uh i think to add movies in the back, just put it in the folder of the song itself...usually sm will play it automatically, if not then either it cant read the file type of its too big or something. hope that helps

I would suggest downloading a file that has a movie in the bg (several TM5 entries do) to answer your questions about how to do it...

ok, i didnt want to have to ask, but how the hell am i supposed to encode it with DivX!? i downloaded a few things to try and see if i could convert it, but 1) the video is 2x speed when it is converted, 2) most of them stick a watermark in the middle of the thing. please, somebody tell me a working program that i can download that will just convert an .mpeg to an .avi, pleeeeease!

Try Windows Movie Maker. If you have windows XP you should have it. You can save your project as a *.avi file. It should be relatively small too.

ALSO - DO NOT GET WMM 2. It is a horrible upgrade that will not allow you to save in any format but WMVs and huge AVIs.

i dont see the option to use AVI...well, there is one setting, but it makes it like 100 times bigger than it already is. thus, it would seem i've already gotten WMM2 by accident

oh well, turns out Moogy is a liar and that any AVI or MPEG will work, and the thing is already an MPEG, and it's fairly small. i'm not sure of the upload limit here, but it oughta fit. hooray!
