Is there such a thing?
Some of my friends 'love' this type of music and I honestly just don't get what's so great about it. Every dubstep song I've heard just sounds the same as the last and completely generic. It just feels like some bandwagon fad that everyone's getting on and have yet to find anything creative amongst that group. Someone educate me as to why this is so popular//good music. Well, i guess if it sounds the same to you, it doesn't really appeal to you, like other music you think is good or that you like. Your friends probably like it cause they like different music types than you? or it justs appeals to them.
A good to try and find dubstep that you may like is experimenting? just listen to different songs and see if you like them. I personally like skrillex, Tom Encore, and UFK.

No music is bad. Some people like certain genres, some don't. I personally can't stand county, but I love Dubstep. That doesn't mean country is bad. It just means it isn't my taste.

I like dubstep for its experimental factor and its novelty. Dubstep songs can be funny, serious, scary, anything. It has good musical cues for stepping, too. Last edited by MarioNintendo; 03-14-2011 at 10:28 PM.. |

Well he did ask what makes dubstep good...so posting supposed 'good dubstep' doesn't really answer the question. I agree with customstuff, musical taste is musical taste. Some people like some things, other people might not. Just because I find no value in classical cars doesn't mean that classical cars aren't worth anything. Dubstep to some people is an attractive genre, to others it is an odd compilation of generic racket. Depends on your taste I suppose.
Perhaps somebody can more describe why dubstep appeals to them. I find it interesting, honestly. It's kind of creative in its own way, and has a unique sound. Good dubstep has a drive to it, and a progression throughout the song that doesn't bore. But then again, that is my taste, and the terms I used are generic to my opinion, so you might not think any dubstep has any of that. PS: This reminds me of conversations discussing why things like Terminal 11 are enjoyed by some. I find it rather comforting. Hahahaha.

I like it due to the unpredictable way the music will go. Sometimes you can hear a song and you can guess what's going to happen next. But in the climax of a dubstep song, it can go anywhere, yet bring the song back where it was. Like any type of music, it's all about taste too. I only seem to really like Skrillex, with a handful of other artists. It's all preference really.

Wow. that was epic. Been a while since I heard a remix of that song. I actually went to an orchestral concert to listen to that. It was only 100 dollars for front row seats!
Except I was just kidding. |

1st: mmm fartstep w/ random long sections of the tempo slowly going up
2nd: Sounds like this dude just learned what sidechain compression is 3rd: some drill and sonic samples, and he put some filter on top of the bass to make the 7th or 8th harmonic dominate. culprate 1st: this is fucen good, wish it went somewhere instead o just wobbin tho grime frog is also legit. Culprate isn't bad other stuff is tho
