Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why

I *love* scary games.

So far I've really enjoyed the Penumbra series. I also have Dead Space 1, Cryostasis, Doom3, and FEAR.

Any other worthy contenders?

Indigo Prophecy/Fharenheit
System Shock 2

I was going to recommend F.E.A.R, but you already have it. System Shock 2 may be hard to find since it was released in 1999.

If you already have FEAR, you don't need anything else.

When you say PC do you mean like online flash games or normal CD/download games or both?

I can second this. It might not be the scariest game ever made, but it is scary.

I just got/have been playing Amnesia for the past hour or so. So far nothing's been scary -- just got inside the Refinery and that's where I am currently stuck, haha.

I just played a very little bit of Amnesia today.
I am a scardy cat to begin with.
I screamed on the top of my lungs in pure fear.
I was on skype.
They had a good laugh.

I agree. I watch someone on youtube that plays through the game and you watch as he does it and even if I ain't playing it, it still scares the crap out of me.

Yeah I was playing in the dark -- nothing scary so far though. This game reminds me of a really dark rendition of Nitemare 3D.

Amnesia was awesome. Its laggy for me cause my computer sucks. PS3 version would be nice.

yeah the refinery is right about where enemies start appearing, and they really provide the serious scares in the game. The ambient phenomena are mostly to both set the mood and to give the game an excuse to lower your sanity, adding to the sense of urgency.
