I just started it today, and it is hell to switch over to. Honestly, for the passed 3 years I made up this weird finger placement thinking that it was spread, but I recently learned I was terribly wrong :P

When i first played Chlorophyll 2 years ago.
Realized Jumpstream and all that nonsense is ridiculous strain on the fingers playing index. Swicthed to QW89 Spread a week later, insta skillboost on jumpstreams and jacks. It only took me a few weeks, considering i've only been playing for a month since FFR hiatus. It's much easier. I still play index for stream files.

And She Screams My Name

I played index before I switched to spread and I never thought I would change.
Then the second official FFR tourny rolled around and I just couldn't AAA the first round song no matter how hard I tried! So I tried out spread and immediately got the AAA, my first AAA ever on this site. Anyway I decided to try and keep playing that way because my accuracy was way better. It took maybe two weeks to be able to AAA an 8 after that. Then it just gradually got better. I can't tell you how long it will take you to get used to it but it won't be that long and I assure you it is well worth it.

I had a weird finger placement too at the start of my FFR days. Switching to spread took a couple weeks, maybe even months. Just keep practicing.

Arrow Theory™
|
I played with this weird key setup before I made the decision to switch to spread. I used the arrow keys, but I used to two hands, two fingers.
up: left middle finger down: right index finger left: right index finger right: right middle finger I also played on a speed of around 1.25 or something ridiculously slow. I switched to spread, with a key setup of ASL; and upped my speed gradually (currently at 1.9) and got comfortable with it after about two and a half weeks. Haven't turned back since.

I just started yesterday; it was frustrating at first, but now I'm starting to get the 16th streams down. I'm hoping I'll be as good as my indexing in 2 weeks, maybe better.
It sure is a lot easier to play spread than index though. Be glad you decided to make the switch. |

Yeaa Im already getting sort of used to it
![]() Im just not sure of the real length it takes to learn it, at least on my low level of skill. Ive gotten - 2 Months - 2 Weeks - 2 Days xD I guess it depends on the person I just thought that it's an interesting concept. |

Took me a long time. Probably about a month to become decent. But then when I was used to it I improved like crazy.

About 2 songs. I had played index for at least 4 years prior to trying spread. There was nothing confusing about it at all so it was really easy to pick up.

I started to try and learn spread yesterday but, It's freaking hard to switch from a playstyle you've been using for four years. Everytime I have to hit up and down at the same time it screws me up because i'm used to my index fingers hitting each other. I'm using a weird setup WE and IO. It feels like a whole different game now.

Took me a month or so to learn spread. I start with easy songs then work my way up to tougher ones. This is back when I was a indexer. I don't use index anymore.

Few weeks going from 3 finger / index to spread. Fun transition though.
Especially when you start to notice patterns getting easier. ![]() |
