I've been thinking about it recently and it seems like it would be a powerful playing style.
Pros: -Two d-pads means you can play like index but without getting your fingers in a twist -Designed to be held and buttonmashed for long periods, as opposed to most keyboard's arrowkeys which are not designed to be hit in dexterous, arbitrary combinations -Flat and close together in a circular pattern that makes 'bracketing' and circle sliding very easy -Jacks get raped -Can even assign shoulder buttons to the columns something like L2 L1 R1 R2, allowing you to play a spread-like configuration, thumbdex or any hybrid style depending on what you feel like. Cons: -Requires external keymapping software to be used (e.g. AutoHotKeys) -Have to take it with you if you want to play on a different computer/takes up space while it's there -double setup that's cheating man O_O anyone have any personal experience?

The way it's mapped on those videos makes it look like the guys is using 10 buttons to hit 4 arrows...

I used to play with a Dualshock when I started with Stepmania. I remember a Vertex Alpha AA back in the days. It's kinda hard to play with a Dualshock, my thumb hurts like hell when I do, but it's really fun.

Very Grave Indeed

If Circle and D-pad Right are both hitting the right arrow, that's Double Setup, which is considered cheating and not allowed.

well in the case of a dualshock specifically you can't hit [14] or [23] using one thumb so any jumpjack or trill on those columns can't be bull****ted meaning jackalicious fcs are still hard work

I personally think double setup isn't a huge deal. The fact that we're taking a game designed for two feet and translating it into a game made for keyboard play means that a lot of rules are being broken already. Double setup is only useful in a few select cases anyway.

in dj max your thumbs can't 'cross over' to the other side
on a dualshock you can set it up to be like having two dpads, so each thumb can hit every column
