My Surrealist/expressionist work
WELL I went through a phase way back when I had a good handle on dissociating to the point in where I couldn't see much of anything around me, just had music playing that was synesthetically visual, and used my hands as sort of a fishing line for the biting creatures of my subconscious reaching up from under the page.
When in that state of trance I generally began to see things in a deconstructive manner-- abstract things; emotions, small creatures, parts of the body, etc. So what most of the items in these drawings consist of is an abstraction of a certain quality. I'll give a brief phrase with the rundown for each, if I remember them (some of these are two years old and I don't really recall what I was going for). I was also really bipolar back then so deal w/ it antineuroticnerds These are in the order in which I drew them, so the cruddy ones are first. Depression, fleeting anxiety I don't know Progression of the feeling of "love" from left to right Anxiety Determination, patience at the worst of times Men (stereotyped) Anxiety associated with an unknown presence Human Astral Projection Acquaintances Cricket, arm bone, half of human figure (from left to right, duh) Fear and anxiety Unknown instances at the subatomic level First humans Confusion with lust and love Overwhelming anxiety and depression Butterfly and rose with partial auras Astral Projection 2 A deconstruction of the mind in a worried/anxious state Half human half crow Overwhelming dissociation Mirages in the reflection of water in middle of ocean when alone Walking to your sanctuary from your troubles (picture is sideways, sorry) Bliss after the worst (again sideways) Baby in the womb Gecko is curious and sees the world unlike we do Stress I do NOT expect you to look through all of these. Highlights would be "Walking to your sancturary" and "Deconstruction of the mind", but maybe that's just because I like those the most. I'm not in any way saying these are excellent in quality. I cherish them for the fact that they have personal meaning and are pretty damn interesting, seeing as I was barely paying attention when making them. Umm, yeah.

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
You should really consider taking these concepts into digital form, I would love to see these colored. With your digital art skills I think you could definitely pump these up a notch or ten.
My favorites are Astral Projection 1, and First Humans. They have that certain feel of just enough coherency to let your mind begin to piece everything together and make up a story behind it. |

My favorites were First Humans and Walking to your sanctuary from your troubles!
Sanctuary made me troubled, and draw a happy picture nao =\

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
Why thank you ^_^
And yes, that is my inevitable goal, to be able to make these nice in a digital form or in a painting. At the moment I really REALLY suck at digital painting so if anything they'd probably be on canvas for the time being, but yeah, these are definitely just brainstorms for bigger ideas.

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
And yes Quiggers, colour's something I definitely need to work with more. I find I'm hesitant most of the time because of being colourblind BUT it's a reality I have to face. I've done like two canvas paintings in my life, one of them's not very good, but here's one that I did in grade 12: ****ty picture but I don't have it back yet so I cannot take another one :l Oh and here's a ****ty paint doodle I did on my hand on new years because I was bored :s ...But there's not much colour there.

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
I think the fact that you're colorblind will make your pieces even more interesting, so I definitely urge you to use more.
Possibly a very large canvas piece, and go crazy with it. ;D

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
I like the sound of that for a future project :B
Also, turns out I had a picture of this other one I had 7 hours to finish before school >_> so it looks a bit rushed. Had to draw a section from this drawing, which I guess also belongs in this thread :P http://oi56.tinypic.com/o0z7lx.jpg (blurry pic, eww) And what the hell I'll post this one too And what the hell I'll post this too. It's a quick painting I did on the inside of a ripped Delissio pizza box Well actually there's some pencil in there some places too but oh well.

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
That's good to hear I'll definitely try working with it as much as I can.
These are not so colourful. BUT HERE THEY ARE: And this one's a rough for a bigger illustration I have to do in my class: And a quick little test, not finished, might do more with it etc but yeah whatever: Colour = good. I can already tell even adding the yellow makes it SO much bolder and juicier.

Re: My Surrealist/expressionist work
All the pictures above me look AMAZING. What pen are you using? And the second to last one is my favorite. The one I'd call "Factory". Your really talented, and I'd love to see you incorporate color into the ones above this post.

I agree, Factory is dope. All of those B&W faces/body parts are really great as well.
