Rank Not Updating

I could be wrong, but I thought the user ranking was supposed to update dynamically. I've got 12 million-ish and my other account has about half that and is still 20,000-something spots higher than me. What's up?

Oh, I've heard that it does NOT update dynamically, but every once in a while when Synth updates the database. Which is right?

I update the ranks.. once a day... usually in the morning, around 7AM. However.. now that school is out.. rank will be updated around 2AM.
