Argh, training is gettng annoying right now.
It's just kind of difficult for me to find standard and easier tricky songs that are training me the way that I'd like to be trained. Right now I've settled on "Fierce Combat", a remix of the one of the FF6 battle themes for my training right now, but is going to be annoying playing this particular song over and over again. I love playing Libertine but when I play it I feel like I'm not progressing, it's kind of easy-ish for a Standard song. Same with a few of the rock songs that I actually enjoy.
Oh, and I guess I am still slowly phasing out of easy (meaning I still play a few easies). A song like "Dr Wily's Theme v2" is still valid for training for me. And version two makes waaay more sense to me than the original which is very annoying, a bunch of blue arrows everywhere. Of course I could master it but it just kind of sucks and isn't fun at all. Anyone else run into something like this, or am I maybe just being too picky? And there didn't seem to be a forum for ranting or complaining, so here I am here again, heh. you shouldnt really be training at your level. you should probably just play lvl 5-8s randomly, not picking a certain one, and just keep playing and eventually you'll be able to play them well.

Of course, if I did what you suggested it would open up a greater variety of music for me to play, but I'm not too thrilled with the idea of the "brain death" that tends to result, where I'm staring at the screen confused because I really have no business trying to master that difficult yet. But we shall see. |

the best way to improve is to play things that you aren't yet comfortable with

I retired. I hear that's a good way of improving at this game.

The absolute way to get better at this game is to pull a rubix. Which basically means get carpal tunnel and begin to push yourself until you AAA FGOs

Don't take it too seriously. Just play and you'll get better. I rarely do the same song twice when I play and always chose random. I play for fun, not to be better. If you do that, chances are you'll get bored of the game pretty fast.

Re: Argh, training is gettng annoying right now.
I also rarely play the same song more than once or twice in a row, unless I'm making a serious effort to AAA or get a really good score (for example in a tournament). It's really important to learn to play well on a song that you've never seen before, because it will improve your reading ability by playing new songs a lot and because (I think) it's boring to do the same thing over and over again. Unless you're having physical problems hitting something (like, your hand just won't move fast enough or in the right way), you really shouldn't do the same song over and over - just choose a range of difficulties that you're comfortable with, and maybe include a difficulty that's a bit of a stretch for you, since it will help you improve faster - and randomly play songs in that range. It's OK if you don't do well on everything, or even pass, because just playing difficult songs and songs that you haven't seen before will help you improve.

I just took a small piece of wood. Then at night I just tapped different patterns like rolls, key combos etc. until I fell asleep. In the morning I did noticeably better at what I worked on the night before.
