Horror movies.
From what I've seen, many horror movies are usually based off religion or religious beliefs. For example, a person has to be sacrificied to cleanse his or her soul, etc. and then there are massive killings.
Of course, there are exceptions. However, some other horror movies I've seen start with a typical policeman or civilian go to a dark room and spot an altar or a religious sign, then there is a person in the room, you can't see his/her face, and then when you do see the face they are missing eyes or whatever. Do you guys think that this is necessary? A horror movie is supposed to be surprising and scary, but the fact that the horror is from a religious belief completely derails the movie. |

Re: Horror movies.
I think you're reading WAY too far into these movies.
I also think you're generalizing WAY too much. Also, religion deals with the demonic and evil, which makes for good horror villains. That's not especially surprising. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Re: Horror movies.
Well, thanks for posting your opinion.
I just wanted your opinions on horror movies in general, though. |

Re: Horror movies.
It's scary to the believer of the religion....to others it may just be funny or a suspensful movie.
but not all horrors are like that :]. (WOOOO FEARNET!)

Re: Horror movies.
I just don't even watch Horror Movies. In my opinion, 99% of them are utterly stupid, and as was initial said, the "horror" rarely seems to come from truely scary stuff.

Re: Horror movies.
I can only think of a few movies that have religious undertones in them, without stretching for an explanation.
Demons, The Exorcist, Dracula, Amityville Horror. The rest either mention it passingly or don't even bother at all. Just because something's supernatural doesn't make it religious. And if you're so uptight about religion being in horror movies, just don't watch it. Seems ridiculous that you'd feel that a movie is ruined or derailed because "religion" is involved. Half of the time it's not even true, it's fixed so that it works for the movie. Quote:

hostel wasnt a horror movie imo. it was full of suspense and all, but it was nowhere near anything that i would call "horror" genre.

Re: Horror movies.
ive never really noticed a religious aspect to horror movies.
To me, horror movies aren't really anything scary. What it really is is just the whole slice and dice deal. Nothing that is "ooooh im scared", its more of just a eww that nasty i dont wanna watch type thing As was this joke |

Re: Horror movies.
I don't like how alot of horror movies today are only scary because they jump out at you. That crap will make you jump even if its in the middle of barney. Being startled isn't the same as horror.

Re: Horror movies.
But even then, those pop-out moments are even becoming more predictable, at least to me, so that takes away the "horror" from those.
