Dead Space is what I would like to call the first horror game ever to hit the markets. The game came out today (14th) for the 360 and PS3. But if you like to step it up a notch you can buy this game for the PC on the 20th of this month.
Probably one of the most interesting things about this game is that EA came up with this idea. Now I know what your thinking 1. What the heck is EA doing making a horror game? and 2. Since EA is making it, it must suck right? 1. Well actually this game is bound to make you jump while your playing, especially because of all the time and effort that they put into it. In some interviews they actually said they jumped themselves. 2. If you still think EA sucks, you still play their old games with not so good gameplay and graphics. If you really think about it though, what better company to scare the crap out of you than EA. In Dead Space you start out in the future as a ship-repairment crew that just crashed landed on what's called the Ishumara. You discover this race of aliens known as necromorphs that just love to eat dead people. The only thing you have to survive are the tools that are (supposedly) used for mining on the ship. I don't want to ruin the whole story, but it's great game that's worth buying. ~My favorite youtube gameplay is "Dead Space Quarantine", check it out!~ (By the way sorry for putting it in the chit-chat forum, I thought that was the General Videogames Forum by mistake, lol.)

I've heard some good things about this game. I won't be playing it, unless I happen to be somewhere where it is being played and I'm asked to take the controller. It just isn't my type of game, and I have a few other games that I really want to play right now such as FIFA 09. I know I have some friends who are eagerly awaiting this game.

Is this an ad for EA?
Seriously, wow. The game isn't the only "horror" game (By the way, the genre is called Survival Horror). EA is not the best at making survival horror games (I don't think they've even tried before this). Try Silent Hill first. Then Resident Evil. Then Fatal Frame. All of them successful survival horror franchises that don't rely on gimmicks to sell copies. None of them are EA games. |

I was going to say that Dead Space is not the first horror game to hit the market. And by a long shot.
However, why would I play some old EA games with bad game play and graphics to see why they don't suck. The reason games suck is because they have bad game play elements. Game play is what makes the game, if it sucks, nothing can make up for it. ~Tsugomaru

Hm.
I've seen a lot of buzz around FFR and other places about this game. Watched the preview on Youtube. Doesn't look that bad. I know this isn't the most trustworthy site, but according to Wikipedia, it is also being released for the PC. I might try it. ( I'm not wealthy enough to own a PS3 or XBOX 360 )

I own the game. Its pretty darn scary, the likes of Doom 3 where stuff is jumping out at you and making shadows behind your back, lots of jump out of your seat moments. Psychologically it isn't scary however it is VERY immersive. The HUD, graphics, and environment make for a great experience. I also really enjoy how your character slowly walks through the corridors (Yeah you can run too, but by default he walks) and you can't make any quick 180's, so truly is more scary then any horror FPS.
While I'm here, just wanted to shout out to all the old members back in 2004! I never come to these forums anymore but I found this thread while searching google on dead space. Last edited by CptObvious; 10-15-2008 at 04:53 PM.. |

I never said the game was going to be bad.
In fact, the game seemed to have done well considering its Metacritic score is 88 and that's really high for a game. ~Tsugomaru

I am super exited to get this game!!!! If I had a job, I would own it now. Alas, my Dad must be the one to buy it. He tends to slack. =/
It does look scary, but that's why I like it!!! Besides, who doesn't like the sound of evil space demons!? ![]() |

Calling it "Resident Evil 4 - In Space" would be an insult to the game, that's how good it is.
It's pretty great.

Wonder if this is better than 'Silent Hill Homecoming'
EDIT: The whole game is based on Dismembering the 'necromorphs' limb by limb, only real cool feature since "Shooting in the head wont kill, Shooting the legs makes them crawl at you, taking out an arm makes them use there other, leaving there body configured allows them to grow there limbs back" Last edited by Oni-Paranoia; 10-22-2008 at 02:09 PM.. |

I'm more than half way through and so far there has been only 1 monster that grew its limbs back and that junk was way scary, as I had been neglecting upgrading my HP in favor of my guns, so I was getting 1hk.
And shooting them in the head is often times hilarious, as they will charge blindly and just flail around at you. But it is an interesting system. Certain limbs are worth more damage to certain types, so you'll really be aiming for the monster, not just firing blindly. I mean, you'll do that, too, when you get startled.

This is a game I would probably rent and might enjoy but I don't see myself shelling out $60 or so to get it.
Then again, I'm not to big on these kind of games so don't feel bad on my part.

Of course they're going to franchise the **** out of this.
But it's the type of game where every minor innovation between titles will be a major improvement, that's just how good it is.
