Default Score mod debate continues

Opinions are divided about mods affecting the score...personally, I think they should not - Special options are just that; special challenges that you choose to take on. I don't even see why people feel that they need to be 'rewarded' - if you can score #1 on a song with tornado on, you surely ought to be able to do the same thing when it is disabled...it really doesn't affect your rankings. For those who do like the extra ego boost, however, my proposed solution is to keep the highscores based only on score/combo, but resolve tied scores by elevating the person with the most mods. That way, PCing with tornado still gets you above someone who did the same without mods.

Another argument in favor of removing mod bonuses is that they make the game really messy. Back when I first started playing FFR, it was a nice simple game that you could instantly jump into and play. I know Synth has worked hard to add all these new features, but rather than improve the game, they detract from it. Every release that has modified the arrow system (from multiple directions up to this new mods release) has made the game more cluttered and much more unstable. It used to be that if I had a few spare minutes, I would play FFR. Now, the levels are so buggy and the game overall is so cluttered with random features that I'm never going to use that it's really not fun to play anymore.

Lastly, whether mods are kept or not, the fact remains that they are hugely exaggerated. I just beat a level, finishing with a couple hundred perfects, 20 goods and 0 for everything else. My rank? 4000+. I played the same level with 'mini' on, and had about 30 misses by the end, with only half the combo. I didn't even try - I just let arrows go by once I'd missed a few. My rank? 2000. That is ridiculous.

I really like FFR - my overall rank of 133 after less than a year of playing should be evidence of that. But, alas, it's fallen into the same trap that so many other developers are caught by - the mad rush to add more and more features, until the game becomes an unplayable mess. Please remember the classic old piece of advice: KISS (Keep it simple, stupid) that all good programmers and engineers take to heart...

Look, when Arch locks the previous topic involving this idea, saying it will never happen, it is NEVER a good idea to make another thread about it. Especially within less than a week.
