Website Design Hell
I am designing a website. The person who designed this company's existing website clearly had no idea what she was doing.
Each of these 2.604 Web folders has around a dozen files in it, and the files are not copies. Some parts of the main page reference files that are all the way down in like the 12th nested folder for some godforsaken reason. Now I have never actually done HTML myself so I too am learning as I go, but even I can tell this is not generally how you organize files. This is going to take a long time.

Re: Website Design Hell
This looks like some kind of saving failure. I remember once in Eclipse programming IDE I did something to my current project folder and when I went to save it started infinite looping to save nested folders 10's of thousands of folders deep.
The hidden name for the folders were so long i couldn't delete the root of it within windows because ntfs file system didn't understand how to deal with it. The point is I don't think that file hierarchy was intentional. |

Re: Website Design Hell
Just start from scratch. It'd probably be quicker and easier.

Re: Website Design Hell
I did with the HTML, but there are assets in there that I had to find (mostly images) so I wound up spending most of today just sorting through. Got it done though :)

Re: Website Design Hell
This reminds me of my CGI Programming Professor's Apache Server. He had to have had 200+ directories with sub directories that made NO SENSE. I feel your pain.

Re: Website Design Hell
Haha, oh god. This reminds me of this one time I was at a summer camp >10 years ago, doing some basic Visual Basic game design class, and I decided to take a look at the camp's website. The HTML was a massive clusterfuck, more than an order of magnitude bigger than it needed to be, and obviously saved in Microsoft Word (which, if you don't know, used to have a habit of using obscure syntax to clarify every possible option for every different piece of text, even when almost everything was default). It baffled me that a camp that offered a web design class could be so inept.

Re: Website Design Hell
Day 2:
So I open up one of the existing pages to see if I can salvage any code. To my surprise the raw code is LITERALLY 10,000 lines long. Apparently whoever coded it decided putting 100 lines of blank space between each line of code was a great idea. Because you know that makes it more readable or something. I have heard of a solution to this, I can just use find/replace with a regular expression to find all the line breaks and replace with \n! WRONG. The blank space is not actual line breaks, it's spaces. From the spacebar. Good old &# 32; Which means somehow between each line of code is 100 lines worth of holding down the spacebar. Yeah I don't know either.

Re: Website Design Hell
I'm not even into programming and i laughed my ass off imagining this person holding the spacebar for minutes... it's like those people who write "letter - space - letter - space - letter - space" cause they want their text to be wider

Re: Website Design Hell
I hope you didn't fix that problem manually, hi19hi19 -- that can still be automated easy
