Pros/ Cons of Government Regulations in radio and television.
We all know that there are several benefits to regulations but there also a lot of disadvantages too!
How do you think these regulations benefit us? hurt us? Discuss.

Most likely, but it's very aggravating if a question like this only gets "lol homework" as responses.
I'd actually like to see some discussion about this too. Biggest con I can think of is that they'll obviously censor anything they find possibly detrimental to the government image. |

Lol yeah, i'm not going to employ any further subterfuge, i need homework help. Though i've thought of many pros already, i just can't seem to find any cons that are solid.

More annoying to read posts about a thread in the wrong section than the thread just being in the wrong section in the first place.
Anyway a con would be that the government then controls the media to some extent. You could argue that countries in China where the government has far more control over the media and as a result a lot of people there have bias influence by the government. |

Re: Pros/ Cons of Government Regulations in radio and television.
This is a topic which has always interested me, since an uncle of mine used to run a pirate radio station in the mid-90s.
Without government regulation, modern media communication methods are likely to become an unorganized mess with little or no informational value. On the flip side, too much regulation discourages or eliminates free speech and turns much of the media being broadcasted into propaganda. My personal opinion is that the US and the FCC are doing so-so with how communications are regulated. Prior to the end of WWII, free speech and media liberty was an abundance of ours, but it seems like it has slowly slipped away in the last 50 or 60 years. It's strange to think that in the early 20th century, the airwaves were dominated by amateurs, but are now filled with the same canned crap coast-to-coast and there is little to no room for amateurs to compete with these huge conglomerates. Some call this a violation of free speech or in some cases a violation of free enterprise. However, we are performing far better than some countries, particularly a few in the far east who use the airwaves solely as a means of empowering the government.
