Mother 3 fan translation Released! :D
After nearly 2 years worth of work, the Starmen.net team has finally released v1.0 of their english patch for the japanese game Mother 3.
Quoted from the site: Mother 3 is the sequel to EarthBound (an epic Super Nintendo RPG released in 1995) which was in development for 12 years before it was released in Japan in April 2006. It soon became clear that Nintendo of America was uninterested in localizing the game, so in November 2006 the fans took matters into their own hands with the Do it Yourself Devotion project. For two years a team of translators and hackers worked to produce an in-depth, professional translation and localization of MOTHER 3. In August 2007 the team began blogging about their progress, attracting the attention of the gaming industry, media, and more than half a million unique visitors. On October 17, 2008, version 1.0 of the fan translation was released. Crazy times. More info and downloads at http://mother3.fobby.net/ Sorry, I'm just reeeeally excited about this since I've been watching their progress for a couple months. This was a depressing and somewhat incomprehensible game. Revival of primitive nature and the destruction of technology is the main theme. I liked the story a lot, though there was no variation in the fighting, or any sidequests.
No spoilers. Like Earthbound (Mother 2), the last boss is completely independent of all the fighting you've done up to that point. In Earthbound, you prayed so that the player defeated the last boss, which I thought was sort of retarded, but unique.

Pretty damn excited. Earthbound was my childhood game and finally being able to play the third in the series gives me goosebumps.

I have never played any of these games and I really don't know what they are about. Someone tell me if I should try this for the next week or so until Fable comes out.

If you were going to try any of the 3 games, I'd start off with Earthbound. It's pretty easy, and you don't have to really know anything from the first game to understand it. Quote:
Although it is pretty retarded since I was fighting for nearly an hour before I buckled down and looked at a walk-through, and saw that I needed paula for prayer. =_= Last edited by AniMeowzerz; 10-17-2008 at 03:06 PM.. |

Re: Mother 3 fan translation Released! :D
I loved Earthbound, only knew 1 person who ever had it and I wish I got it off of him years ago but oh well. Going to get my own copy of all the games soon
EDIT: I have a problem with my Emultator running as supersonic speed, wtf? And the % at the top fluctuates insanely fast..

Fallen, make sure Frame Skip is set to Auto. Anything else and it freaks out.

I hated it when you pray with Paula, and it didn't work after all the inhabitants of the world gave damage. Then I spent another 30-50 rounds fighting Gigyas on my own, then I prayed again, which brought "my" power etc. Ness is in Mother 3, just saying. In a movie theater. As for Earthbound, your local used video game store.

Thank you very much, been a little while since I last used emulators, forgot how to tweak all the settings.

Giygas freaked me out in his final form. It's all a weird mass of red with something faintly resembling a face, right?

I'm about 8 hours in and damn, the story is immersive. Also, the music is sublime. And the dialogue:
Old Man: Yes? Hahahahahahaha |
