Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
Well, idk if it's just me, but are there any more of you guys playing FFR onehanded only??
I can't really get to play with two hands. Any advice to practice this ? btw: 1st post in almost 9 years lol. Last edited by Gigamiek; 03-28-2017 at 09:53 AM.. |

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
I met some guys on smo earlier today who were playing onehanded who really wanted to get good at these sorts of games. They're two handed players now.
But I hope you enjoy your optional playstyle, it's fun creating barriers for yourself. Advice? play more. then after that play some more and when you've finished playing some more you should probably play more before starting to play some more. Oh, and make sure everything you play is well above your skill level. don't forget to play more. Last edited by Mourningfall; 03-28-2017 at 10:03 AM.. |

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
When he says he can't get to play with two hands, maybe he means he literally can't..
I knew a guy named toez who had one one arm, he played super smash Bros melee sitting on the floor using his feet on the controller.. Just do you fam, that being said everyone plays spread.. If you wanted to stick with one hand, just realise it's going to be limiting compared to 2 hands |

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
yeah you just have to start and never go back. It's not a complete reset, your reading ability transfers over and you will probably regain your previous skill level after around 150~ hours of gameplay depending on how skilled you are at one hand (but it's generally pretty easy to surpass the one handed skill threshold, excluding outlier cases).

I was legit (in my last post) going to write CALL IN SK8R! Go one handed 4 life. Or just start playing with your nose~

But: it's pointless to practice when you're not comfortable. I recommend using middle / index fingers generally for spread, but if that's super awkward try middle / ring. It's more comfortable for some. You can also do keysetups like ASKL or instead: WD KO ect. Find what works best, and then play for like 30 minutes. It'll help you choose what you like best. |

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
playing one handed is something you might want to do in stepmania rather than ffr. boos in ffr would really hold me back where when i play one handed i tend to hit extra keys by accident
i do know a guy who can stream > 300 with one hand in stepmania though so it's worth a shot if you have the dedication |

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
When I started out I played with one hand. I remember struggling on about level 25-30 songs because i couldn't move my hand that fast. And then players started to tell me to play with two hands, saying that it was much easier. I didn't believe them but since i was new i thought i would give it a shot. My skill dropped considerably at first. Couldn't play anything above level 10 about. But after a few weeks of practice i was struggling around level 40-50 instead of level 30. So i would say two hands are better, a lot easier with complex patterns and uneven patterns but it has its disadvantages with trills and jacks. Or maybe that's just my own personal struggles but hey, unless you are like one of the top 100 players i say go for it, try it for a few weeks at least, get around 100hrs in and if you don't like it then go back to one hand. Cant really hurt right?

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
if you're going to play 1 handed at least use 4 fingers or your thumb plus 3 fingers, it's the best option

Re: Are you guys playing one- or twohanded?
It takes vastly more effort to improve one-handed than two. There is a transition period when switching from one-handed to spread, but within a couple of months at most you'll have reached the level you were at one-handed. Plus, the skill cap at one-handed play is much lower than two-handed play. Not saying it's impossible to get good one-handed (Bynary Fission, plus (formerly) SK8R43 and Bluearrowll come to mind) but they are the exception rather than the rule, plus there will never be a D7 one-handed player. So all in all, it's in your best interest to switch.
