Are we going to build an iOS version?
I've released a few iOS apps myself, perhaps I could help with this. I'm not amazing, but I'm sure ppl would appreciate a development on the side of iPhone. Imagine using your iPhone or iPad for this stuff

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
There's been a bit of talk about this in the past, and it doesn't seem likely for a few reasons:
1) Split of userbase 2) FFR runs in Flash, which is inherently limited, and more so on mobile 3) There are already multiple games out there that even include support for .sm files from Stepmania to be played on the phone - we'd literally be making an FFR port for iOS which doesn't seem like a feasible thing considering the resources we have right now. I think mobile FFR would be neat, but it's an animal that is probably a bit too big to tackle right now considering staff is non-paid volunteer only, and limited to just a handful of bodies. If I'm not mistaken arcnmx was also working on a mobile-friendly engine that could play FFR/SM/ThirdStyle simfiles, but I'm not sure what became of that project.

Well definitely count me in on that handful number of bodies! I have Xcode, a mac, and some experience with publishing apps!
Let me know if a team can come together or if you can offer some source code! |

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
Creating an FFR app isn't in our best interest right now for the reasons listed by justin. The handful of non-paid volunteer staff refers to the various staff of FFR including the entire administration, development team, event staff, game managers, wiki managers, and moderating staff. FFR used to be a for-profit organization, but now we rely solely on volunteership, although there is still an application process and a hiring process, as it were, for available positions in various FFR staff roles, which I'm not sure there are any of at this time.

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
I dunno. Is FFR open source? I'm just excited to publish some sort of FFR flash where you can use four fingers... maybe an ipad version.... Yes I know Android supports flash :( :(
But I dunno it would be fun for me to try. I even I have a website with SQL to store the data, well, it doesn't matter but it would be fun for me to attempt the process even if it were just myself :) |

Only the FFR API backend is open. There's a link to it in the development drop-down list at the top of this webpage.

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
That's my point. That's the only part of FFR that's open-sourced.
Assuming the rest of FFR isn't open-sourced as a way of guaranteeing copyright protection to the artists that agree to have their music used in-game. Last edited by gold stinger; 01-20-2015 at 06:13 PM.. |

ddr clones that target mobile devices have been attempted and have failed at gaining any traction. your time is spent doing other things. just my 2 <strikethrough>worthless</strikethrough> cents.

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
Was there ever a crowd for those apps anyways? At least this one has a little bit of traction to keep that ball rollin yam san? There's probably going to be at least 30 immediate users for the ios version and FFR has ranks and shit. There's chatter about it all the time more recently. It'd probably be used more than any of those apps ever made that are like ddr. It's a shame that this bright idea and a way of getting ffr out can't be put to use. People can start on the app and if they like the feel of the game and want to achieve some better scores possibly, they can take their skills to the comp and get bowser that shit. Could fuckin revamp the game sun shine. Maybe a custom flash-based browser would work better though idk that's not open-source and know nothing about flash but know that there are browsers you can already run the game on so how about one flash-based made just for running ffr?

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
Well I remember that I bought a DDR app from Konomi on my iphone a couple years ago (it seems to have disappeared, wtf? it was like $10). Anyway, every single song was like $1. It was really cool. You just used your two thumbs to tap UDLR on the touchpad. It was definitely exciting!
So I mean, I do think there's a LOT of potential in this department. Have you ever heard of that Smule app called "Magic Piano"? It's basically a horribly, horribly debauched version of FFR. And it seems quite successful. Imagine if FFR caught on for iOS! I mean, it couldn't be THAT hard to build a game that reads stepfiles, makes sound, and connects to a database could it? It's probably one of the most basic game designs you can think of. |

Re: Are we going to build an iOS version?
I do take suggestions about what else to provide in the API, ranks just seemed like the most common things people scrape off the site.
Other things people get access though the game/engine files, though I'd rather they didn't. |
