Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Hello, I have been playing FFR, and I can do streams pretty well as long as they don't get extremely fast, but once they through jumps in there, I get thrown out of the song almost immediately ... It becomes seemingly unreadable and impossible. Besides the average tips of "Screenshrinking" and "Practice practice practice" or "Spread" and all that, what do you suggest? My playing style is best 3-fingered, left index on left, right middle on right, right index on down. Also, I am having a problem with the up + right jumps in a stream, because my middle finger taps up instead of my index. My right index can never goes up, for it doesn't feel natural. I've tried moving my left finger up, but I can't move it back fast enough. I have no intentions on switching to spread, because no matter how hard i try on spread I feel like I am being introduced to Dance Dance Revolution again. The main song I am trying is 20031023... Any tips will help... ty

Do that. Just keep trying and you'll get it.
Edit -- Sorry for the typical response. Other than that, have you tried Stepmania? Maybe another arrow game would help or something.

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Spread is the best way to do jumpstream, it's just a fact.
Just play a good variety of files with patterns like that and not just focus on one. That's the best way to get better.

Yes, I have played stepmania for a while longer than FFR, and ive had the same problem on it too... Any songs that you might suggest that have a slower jumpstream? I can not find one that is slow. Once a jumpstream is thrown at me, I can no longer read the arrows... It is like I am unfamiliar in the pattern, and I look for patterns when I read a series of arrows.

The Kilga Pack has lots of jump streamy songs, maybe slow some of those down and try them out. Black Dragon is a fun jump stream song too, but a little fast.

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Sorry for sounding so n00by, but what's spreading?
I'm having problems with jumpstreams and jumps in general as well. I'm trying to do Straight to Video and on occasion when I get to the triple jumps there, only one of the two arrows registers even though I know I clearly hit both at the same time. It doesn't even boo me, it just doesn't register.

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Spreading = playing FFR with four fingers, usually both index and middle fingers.

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Thanks. ^^ I might try that seeing how I consistently fail consecutive jumps. Especially ones with the up arrow. >_>

As for tips with jumpstream: 1. Try screenshrinking even more 2. Tap the keys a little harder on the jumps..try to accentuate them 3. Etude to a Dragon and Sensorium are probably the easiest jumpstream songs on FFR so practice with those. 4. Do what itmorr said and play jumpstream songs on Stepmania slowed down. |

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Easiest way to spread is
Left hand: Index finger: Left; Middle finger: Down (on arrows) Right hand: index finger: 8; Middle Finger:6; (on numpad) Thats how I play. Not that I'm good or anything, it's just how I play. I presume quite a lot of spread is played this way. It gives you room to move your fingers instead of having them all crammed on the arrows. Unless you have a laptop of course.

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
I'm actuall quite good at doing sequential jumps one-handed. I naturally switch to two-handed for moderately fast jumpstream and general 180 BPM+ stream, and also bursts. I'm weird.

And yeah, a lot of spread players do that. That's what I do on my desktop computer, but.. Since I'm godly (goddessly, rofl?) on my laptop, I play on it more using arrow keys only. I'm too lazy to set up hot keys. |

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
I end up hurting my fingers when I press too hard. I've already broken one of the little keyboard legs. >_>;
Okay, I'm about to blow here. I'm trying to FC Mega Man 2 Dr Wily Theme and I keep failing at the 95 arrow. It's an up arrow after an up-down jump. It just doesn't register! Not a boo, nothing! And on the rare occasion that it does register, 90% of the time it gives me 2 boos along with it. And I have absolutely no idea why. -_- My keyboard is so messed up. -_-;

Re: Any tips with jumps/jumpstream?
Give Carrousel Paradise a try. It works you with streams, crossovers, and jumpstream. Get good at CP, you'll get pretty good at FFR overall, IMO. Above all: don't give up! Winners never quit and quitters never win.
***EDIT*** It also has several running men, making it even more of an all-around test...
