...And this is for you, Dad...
A night it was. A brilliant way to finish a perfect traditional Father's Day.
I only live with my Father. My mother left when I was 3, and my stepmother also divorced, over 3 years ago. I don't have any siblings, but I find it more comfortable that way. Today was one of the rare occassions I have a proper father to son evening, reminding myself that, of course, it was Father's Day today. I don't think buying my father the famous Steam-Boat $70 buffet dinner and a Wynn's $50 Coonawarra Estate Vintage Release Cabernet Sauvignon red wine was hardly enough for the favours I have received in the past years as a son. Not even the additional $60 taxi fares and the occassional 'accidental turns' the driver performed (I believe he was just trying to make more money). Enough of my story. What did you as a proud son or daughter do for your loving father on Father's Day?

"I wrote a letter to my dad- I wrote, I really enjoy being here. But I accidently wrote rarely, instead of really. But I still wanted to use it, so I crossed it out and wrote I rarely drive steamboats, Dad. There's a lot you don't know about me. Quit trying to act like I'm a steamboat operator. This letter took a harsh turn right away." - Hedberg

Re: ...And this is for you, Dad...
Fathers' Day in us, canada and uk this year was June 15
In aus and new zealand it's September 7, today. It's not on the same day around the world. And yes, today is grand parents today, grand parents day has only been around for like 10 years though. |

Also seems absurd considering what happened, unless they are so rich that their losses are nothing a weekend shopping won't fix. Quote:
Also, it's the third Sunday in June here for fathers day. It's first Sunday in September for Australia / New Zealand for those curious. |

PS - I got my dad some manly scent collection stuff, and then we had dinner at Lake Las Vegas... which is consequently less than a mile away from my house. This was months ago, of course. Quote:
And soon enough other holidays will arise as if from nowhere. Huh, funny thing, that.

Look, I never have said anything negative towards you, or thought of anything along those lines. I think your a great person on the forums, but this really got to me. What you considered a story is not a story, but I can't force you to believe it, can I? Of course, I've got no proof, no evidence of it really happening, but people trust their own instincts, and I'm not the sort of person who lies. Anyway, for your benefit and those supporting you, I'll take down that signature. It will never appear in my signature again. It wasn't an act for attention. I don't want attention for which something negative crossed my path. I don't think that's right. Possibly there was a chance that I didn't give myself the opportunity to update my own signature? Anyway, don't think of this as an invitation to a hate list. I still don't look down on you. I don't look down on anybody. Just... if it's something you know which might stir me up, please keep it to yourself.

Re: ...And this is for you, Dad...
I hate to say it Destiny, but there is a place for honesty on these forums, and I can understand the irritation felt by the other guys. When you put a link to something in your thread, it is typically advertising something, so it's almost as if you're screaming for attention. If that was not your intention, I hear you loud and clear and won't assume otherwise since you've responded genuinely.
And I don't know if you understand this, but when you are miserable over losing things which some others could only dream of having, you can't expect them to have too much sympathy in the matter. The fact of the matter is that you have gone out of your way to refer to your financial status, given how many expensive items you mentioned not being stolen, and the prices of the fathers day gifts. I won't draw any conclusions from that stuff, but it's hard to reasonably expect positive reactions with some of the things we've seen. Glad you've made an effort to clear it up, but I hope you have a better understanding on your part as well.

Re: ...And this is for you, Dad...
Thread was about father's day; it obviously isn't anymore. Locked for derailment. Good job guys.
Edit: Opened again because I feel bad. Destiny shouldn't have to suffer because all of you guys derailed his thread. He just wants to aknowledge his Dad on Father's Day. Sorry, man. Keep on topic please. Last edited by Sprite-; 09-7-2008 at 12:05 PM.. |

Re: ...And this is for you, Dad...
Well, my Dad moved out when I was four, and my stepdad moved out when I was eleven. (I'm thinking my mum has trouble with men. Wouldn't surprise me, I get my antisociality [sp?] from her.)
But I buy my grandfather something on every father's day... IIRC, 2008, I bought my gramps a ceramic hummingbird (he likes hummingbirds) and took him to a Chinese restaurant.

Woah, for a second I thought that I had forgotten about this again and I was gonna be mad for not having any idea about this. Then I read a little and found out that I was indeed not alone and that father's day was already celebrated.
On a lighter note, That sure sounds like one hell of a fun father's day. |
