I see some posts in here regarding the take down by Hasbro of Fighting is Magic, so I figured this would be a good place to post this. It's a petition that is picking up steam pretty quickly to have Hasbro reconsider their decision, and although I doubt it will change anything in the long run regarding the game itself, I think this petition and it's comments from signers might have them reconsider attacking more fan generated content in the future. Hopefully anyway, the attack of the fan base by Hasbro after this stunt is something I am beginning to be concerned about.

$200 is quite steep (unless you are exaggerating, but considering some of the ridiculous prices I've seen I can't be sure), there are a few good ones around I've seen on eBay that are a lot less than that. For example, this Pinkie Pie is a buy it now $60 with free shipping which looks pretty decent.

Also, those pony plushes can really rake in some serious cash... I saw some bids on a few that went well over 1k (I think it was either a Twilight one or a Chrysalis one)

Cool, and I know what you mean, whenever it comes to something like businesses it seems like they will never listen to what anyone has to say. Still, better to try to make a difference than to let opportunity pass us by.

Some plushes sell for ludicrous amounts I can't even believe anyone would pay so much for. The most I seen one hit was a bit over $900, and it was a Rarity in her artsy getup. Oddly enough I think a life size (Fluttershy I think it was) only went for like $650 or something in comparison. Every time I see stuff like this it makes me wonder why the hell Hasbro wouldn't make show accurate plushes that didn't look like absolute trash and sell them at some over priced level (but still cheaper than most of the fan made stuff, like 30~45 dollars) and make profits through the roof.

About MLP:FiM, I want to say that I don't like this direction things seem to be going. It appears as if Hasbro is doing their best to reduce fan-made material and thus I don't know that it's even worth the efforts anymore. So much for the community-led aspect and the very thing that got me interested in the first place.

It's probably not safe to make any MLP:FiM fan-made creations which have potential to gather any sort of popularity/attention unless you have explicit written permission from Hasbro (doubtful), or unless you stick strictly to parody of the show itself or the characters or places therein (generally protected as "fair-use").

About the show, I think it peaked around the first Discord episodes. After that, while there are some good episodes here and there, the general trend seems to be slipping a bit, I think. And moves like completely removing Derpy Hooves and planning on making Twilight into an alicorn?

What I loved about it -- the fanbase -- all the creative works ... the artwork, the music, the fan-made cartoons and videos and the potential for so much more (actually good fan-made video games, etc...), and that's actually what got me interested in the first place. But it seems business as usual is killing what could have continued to be a great thing. I don't think they realized what they had.

I do think making the plushes and then selling them was overstepping bounds, and I don't blame Hasbro or whoever for going after that sort of thing since money was changing hands/being made/etc...

I just think it's a bit much when they start going after projects that aren't even bringing in any money and are purely for artistic and fan purposes. They are perfectly within their legal rights to do so, but it also discourages people from even bothering to contribute anything at all.

There's a big difference between making money off stuff (could be seen as competition) and doing stuff for free for purely artistic and community purposes (which pretty much equals free advertising for Hasbro, if they think about it)

Most companies understand how fan generated content greatly helps them in terms of recognition, keeping loyalty of current fans, and reeling in new fans to increase marketability and profits. Hasbro's legal team seems to be oblivious to such things, and need to try and handle this such as other companies have (like Bungie, Nintendo, or SEGA).

Honestly, I think copyright law needs to have some sort of revisions to give some legal backing on derivative materials, which the owner can prove they were in good faith merely using a companies intellectual property to (in a noncommercial and non profiting manner) promote and aid in the growth of a the official right owner's content. Where it is clear that without a shadow of a doubt that copyrighted materials were not in any way regarded as owned by the creators of the fan content, and they only wish to get more people interested in the original content the copyrighted material derives from.
