Disney Purchases Lucasfilm, "Star Wars 7" In Theatres 2015
This... I... just... ugh.
I'm surprised nobody's made a thread about this yet. I've never been a huge fan of the Star Wars series to begin with, and I generally disliked the prequel trilogy. Only the original trilogy got a positive reaction from me. Also, rarely does a Disney film come along that doesn't irk me. I don't claim to be some kind of uptight film critic but ads for Disney films are usually all over the internet and television stations, they explode at the box office, but when I get around to them a year later via piracy or three years later via the DVD bargain bin at a local pawn shop, they're almost always the same: visually appealing but with a very flat storyline. Of course that's just my opinion and I'm sure there are people here that love Disney films and I won't criticize those people. But this I must ask: does Disney really need to keep buying all this stuff? They nearly have a media monopoly by now, wouldn't you think? Anyway, this thread is for the discussion of this media merger and of the upcoming Star Wars film. SOURCE: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/5...-wars.html.csp

I don't think it's any coincidence that the best Star Wars films are the ones not directed by George Lucas. I'm interested to see how it goes now that it's out of his hands.

Not sure what to think... I guess I'll find out when it comes out. Hopefully it carries on the legacy of the originals.

Re: Disney Purchases Lucasfilm, "Star Wars 7" In Theatres 2015
I was thinking about the idea of making more star wars movies past episode 6 a few years ago. I didn't think it would ever happen due to upsetting a lot of fans.
Doesn't matter to me either way. I think it could be good. |

I read somewhere a day or 2 ago there are supposed to be a total of 9 films? Sorry I don't have the link to post! But if what I read is leaning towards being right, expect 3 more..

Looking forward to it. Just looking at how Disney handled its video game licenses with Wreck-it Ralph, it goes to show how Disney is very respectful of the original sources. I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised!

I can see the negatives, but let's also remember one thing: Disney also owns Marvel.

Am I skeptical? For sure. Do I think Disney will totally screw up? No. This should be interesting at the very least. -o24

Re: Disney Purchases Lucasfilm, "Star Wars 7" In Theatres 2015
Not a big fan of Disney mostly because of their role in various intellectual property rights-related cases (perpetual copyright extensions, etc...), their strong-arming tactics (going after day cares that had unlicensed artwork, etc...), the "Disneyfication" and then later aggressive protection of everything (take public domain stories, characters, etc, "Disneyfy" them, then aggressively protect -- much of Disney's best-known stories, works, characters, etc... are not Disney inventions but were taken from public domain, historical, cultural works, and so forth and "Disneyfied".)
That said, that's a problem with the way the company operates rather than any problem with any creative folks who happen to work there. So yes, it will be interesting to see where this goes. |

Re: Disney Purchases Lucasfilm, "Star Wars 7" In Theatres 2015
we can all expect a star wars 8 because disney just loves to milk the living shit out of sequels
i'm expecting absolute filth and a bitchslap to the starwars franchise because 1) disney's strong point really isn't sci-fi 2) see point 1 |

Re: Disney Purchases Lucasfilm, "Star Wars 7" In Theatres 2015
Well, there's supposed to be 9 movies, brahs. It's always been said once Star Wars blew up that there would be 9.
That said, I agree with Kiwi: The best movies were the ones where he had minimal influence (the first 3), where he basically just got all the credit. The prequels where he was active were horrifying. It'd be cool if Disney pulled from the SW extended universe though. Lots of crazy shit. Hey. Maybe they'll do http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2533/...6f40ea2dc9.jpg |

Unlikely because 7-9 will most likely happen after Return of the Jedi and Death Troopers took place a couple of years before A New Hope.
