Default Anon protests Scientology worldwide

I don't see any thread about this, so here:

Basically, earlier today a worldwide protest against the Church of Scientology occured. Thousands worldwide were encouraged to show up at their nearest Scientology church with signs and such to protest against the "religion".

Most of this was started and continued by /b/ and anon in general. IMO it's pretty fricken amazing that so many people went to these things.

Video footage of a lot of that is here:

http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.php?t=3867

A couple of my friends were in Boston at the time, they ALMOST went but didn't out of laziness...ah well.

Yeah, I saw this on digg. Since when does anon show up to real life protests? I was sort of expecting this to go the way of Hal Turner.

If Anonymous isn't careful, they are going to turn the entire group of nut jobs into an entire group of martyrs.

What Anon stands for (internet terrorism and the like) is wrong, but I still find it funny that they're taking on one of today's more controversial things: religion, and Scientology at that.
Most people hate Anon, and most people hate the Scientologists.
I wonder which group people hate more?

No Poke; this is because 4chan realised they are large in number and hold great influence over the internet and realise they have a voice.

This is a good thing.

What Anon is or is not doesn't concern me.

They're standing for freedom of speech (and more) this time, and I have to say, it's encouraging to see that from people.

I like how scientology's usual tactics get completely dismantled when confronted with large numbers of protesters. Hilarious seeing them hide inside unable to defend themselves, so now they're just playing the victim. Hopefully they'll be more humble with their "fair game" policy after this.

Exactly... I thought this same thing.
Im glad this is happening before it becomes even MORE infectious... AKA when the number of people involved with the religion surpasses the number of people willing to stand up to them.

start lurking.

As for the protest, there was one here about 2 miles from here, and when my friends went, everyone was dressed up in black suits and afros.

Well, no. They don't stand for freedom of speech because they believe Scientologists shouldn't be around. Limiting another group does not show your support of, but fight against freedom of speech.

If I ever met someone that claimed to be a member of Anonymous IRL , I would likely break their nose.

If you'd watched their "press release", you'd have found that this isn't the case. They made mention of an organization called the "Free Zone" (or something like that, thanks to the computer voice I can't be sure), a group of those who believe in Scientology but are not part of the Church of Scientology due to its actions. Anon does not bear these people any grudge.

As elaborated on in the video, Anon only wants to wage war against the Church, not its followers. Kind of like Martin Luther and his war against corruption of Catholicism, while bearing no grudge to the believers.

Granted, Anon is Anon, so you can't be certain of anything they say.
