Made it to the wildcard game, as I think a lot of people know

The game was really, really stellar. Its why I play this game, and it gave me a feeling I haven't felt in a long time.

I absolutely love you guys, and I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe you to be intelligent players worth playing with, through and through, so I mean this with no offense, because I am putting myself down as well with this statement, but it was the highest quality game I have ever played of Werewolf.

Every single player in the game was at least above average. I'd probably put myself around 8th or 9th overall out of the pool of 18 (There were originally 17, but one replaced out), but there's a huge amount of distance between where I am on that, and where the top 5 player are. They're in a league of their own. Seeing some of the events happen in the game reminds me of why I play this game, the feeling of confusion of not knowing what's going on when your top townreads turn out to be wolves, combing the thread for hours looking for evidence to back your world, but not finding it, is thrilling.

The box score of this game looks something like this:

Players:
Beck (NovoCiv)
benneh (Two Plus Two)
Da Letter El (Smogon Forums)
GeneralHankerchief (The Org)
Joga bonito (Football Forums)
Klopp (PilkarskieForum)
Lissa (Ultimate Mafia)
Montecore (Two Plus Two)
MysteriousLad (Wars World News Forum)
Nego (Vendetta Strada)
Newcomb (Dark Lord Potter)
Panther (Fifth Avenue)
Royal Ape (BoardGameGeek)
Sunbae (Mafia Universe)
The Sun Fan (Flash Flash Revolution)
UpsideDownChuck (Play Diplomacy)
Visorslash (Total War Center)

Setup Information Here

d1:

benneh replaces out. benneh is replaced by Jan (Super Mafia All-Stars). I've played literally hundreds of games of Video Mafia with Jan, seeing him replace in was a treat. I've played a few games with benneh and I know he's a top tier player, so it was a little bittersweet.

Nego Reveals as the Innocent Child. (They were getting pushed on at EOD, pretty much had to happen. Innocent Child can choose when to Reveal in this setup, which I really like. Adds depth to a role that previously had literally no depth.)

Royal Ape is lynched, Royal Ape is flipped as the Wolf Watcher.

At this point, town knows the setup exactly. Row 6 is the only possible setup, because it is the only one that contains both an Innocent Child and a Wolf Watcher.) The final votecount is here. As you can see, Da Letter El was a strong counterwagon to the wolf. Going into the next day, everyone but myself and one or two other players believed the Da Letter El wagon to be pure, and that town was just stomping the wolves.

n1:

Klopp is killed (by the vigilante, but we did not know this for sure until later. Kills are not distinguished by the mod.) Klopp flips as Vanilla Town.
GeneralHandkerchief is killed (by the wolves). GeneralHandkerchief flips as Vanilla Town.

Firstly, the Klopp shot was terrible. Both Klopp and GH pushed Royal Ape hard and from the beginning. The vigi later thought that Klopp would be the type to bus, I don't see it at all, I think the vigi really fucked up there.

d2:

Da Letter El is lynched. Da Letter El flips as Vanilla Town.

This is the point where I'm kind of disappointed in myself. I felt like I knew that after seeing Royal Ape flip Wolf, that Da Letter El had to be town, there was literally no way town was just crushing in that hard. I spent hours ISOing the players who voted for Da Letter El on d1, and I couldn't find jack shit on any of them. I flipped on Da Letter El as a result, and this is the point of the game where I really, really lost my groove and never got it back. Going into d2, I was probably the most correct player in the game, I had all three wolves in my sights, and I threw it away because I couldn't find what I felt like I knew was there. It was, and is, very humbling. I voted for Da Letter El that day, and I feel pretty bad about flipping on him. Final votecount is here. joga bonito was the counterwagon, and for pretty good reason imo. He wasn't really interacting with any players in real time, he spend the entirety of his time alive trying to catch up on the thread, and his thoughts, when he posted them were just outdated. Unfortunate for him, but playing that way pretty much means he had to die.

n2:

joga bonito is killed (by the vigilante). joga bonito flips Vanilla Town.
Newcomb is killed (by the wolves). Newcomb flips Vanilla Town.

The joga shot is a lot better than their previous one, the vigilante decided to actually shoot who town wanted them to. A lot of people felt like they should've shot Da Letter El the first night, and a lot of people yelled at them for not doing so, probably rightly so. Newcomb had really good reads, they, like me, felt like Da Letter El was town, but they didn't flip, and they had all the remaining wolves as a result. They were pushing on one especially hard, and is a large part of the reason why there were the kill.

d3:

Jan is lynched. Jan flips as the Wolf 2-shot Roleblocker.

Pretty mechanical lynch. Jan subbed into a bad spot, wasn't able to project hard town, was getting pushed by Newcomb, and the counterwagon of Panther claimed vigilante. Nothing Jan can do to avoid it, I think. Final votecount is here.

n3:

Sunbae is killed (by the vigilante). Sunbae flips Vanilla Wolf.
UpsideDownChuck is killed (by the wolves). UpsideDownChuck flips as Vanilla Town.

At this point, a few things happened, the most important being an absolute sense of mindfuck that Sunbae was a wolf. He was top poster the previous day by far, and his posts were incredibly pure. He was soft busing his partners too, which made it even more impressive that the vigi actually made an incredible here shot, in my opinion. Something I've mentioned to a few people before is that TWG makes me feel great when unpredictable things like that happen. UpsideDownChuck was a Tracker hunt by the wolves, it was getting to the point where the Tracker actually posed a threat to the wolves, as the wolves have to make a kill every single night, and the kill is trackable.

d4:

MysteriousLad is lynched. MysteriousLad flips Vanilla Town.

Final votecount is here. They were playing similarly to joga, they were behind, there was only one wolf left at this point, and a few people had cleared themselves based on events earlier in the game (Lissa, Visorslash and myself were almost never wolves in everyone's opinion. Panther had claimed vigilante and was uncounterclaimed. Nego was still alive, so it was coming down to a numbers game at that point. This lynch was another lynch that had to happen. Montecore was the agreed upon vigishot going into the night, he had hard defended Jan and had soft defended Royal Ape, so it was another kill that just had to happen. They were asked to vote for themselves, and did so in order to speed up the phase. A rare example of an acceptable time to vote for yourself.

n4:

Montecore is killed (by the vigilante). Montecore flips as Vanilla Town.
The Sun Fan is killed (by the wolf). The Sun Fan flips as Vanilla Town.

Wolves had to kill the Tracker or they would instantly lose. The Tracker could only be myself, Lissa, or Visorslash, the last wolf said they agonized a lot over who it could have been, had eliminated Lissa (for good reasons), and had believed Visorslash's Vanilla Town claim earlier in the game. Unfortunately, Visor was the Tracker, and even though he tracked me that night, it did not matter, because the last wolf no longer had any outs. The living players were Panther (the vigi), Nego (the IC), Visor (the Tracker) and Lissa and Beck. Town can lynch Lissa and Beck in any order and win the game, so the last wolf, Beck, conceded, leading to...

d5: Beck is lynched. Beck flips as Vanilla Wolf, Town wins the game. Final votecount is pretty meaningless here, the last wolf outed themselves and bit the bullet, understandably so.

All in all, it truly was a pleasure to have played in the wildcard game, I consider it an honor to have been chosen by the jury to move on into that. I found it significantly more pleasurable than the qualifying game before it, as I have gone on record to a few people saying that the vast majority of players in that game were below average in my opinion. Thank you all very much for allowing me to represent this site in this event. I don't think I said that before, but it meant a lot to me to be chosen.

Not going to give too of a talk here, but playing there reinforced my opinion that, on this esoteric, nearly dead forum, there is a small but thriving player-base for a slightly-less-esoteric forum game, and that player here on FFR, if you work hard enough at it, you truly can become a top-tier player while having a lot of fun doing it.

I'd put my chances of moving on into the Finals at very, very low. I truly believe that I am not good enough of a player in order to take the spot from someone else in the wildcard game, or, if replacements are needed, there are a lot of players in the game who I consider to be my superior in this game without a doubt. In order for this to happen, I think a lot of people who are in the Finals already would have to replace out (something like 10 would be my guess), and that's just unrealistic. I am eligible to be voted if there is a season four, but I think I would rather let someone else from FFR go next time instead of me, as there is a good chance I could represent DailyMafia or Super Mafia All-Stars instead, and there was not very much interest in anyone from those communities playing in the series.

Thank you all for voting for me, thanks to everyone who hyped me up, special thanks to Mashi for writing a kick-ass Bio for me, it was a pleasure. It means probably more to me than a lot of you would think that this small, subsection of a forum still has people dedicated to playing these games after all these years, and though I have spent a short time here compared to some of you, thank you for giving me a place here.

As for what is to come, well

you all already know, but

only TIME will tell

It's good to see our community was well-represented, and it looks like that game breathed a new breath of fire into you. I only hope it doesn't get quenched playing here again.

Thanks for the summary Greg, and thanks for representing our community.

You guys keep me sharp, and I hope I help keep you guys sharp

I do absolutely believe that playing here can create some of the best players on the internet. I know it sounds like a catch phrase, but probably all of you were better than some of the competition I faced in the qualifying round.

It did put me in a mood to play TWG, not gonna lie.

Hello guys

Once again, thanks for participating in this year's Mafia Championship. It was great to have you be represented (Sunfan GOAT), and hopefully you'll be there for next year's season as well

I thought you might be interested to know that the finale for this season finally started yesterday. 136 communities, 9 games and almost 6 months later - it's finally time for the final 17 players to battle it out to find out which*player will earn the title of the Internet's best mafia/werewolf player.

Want to spectate the finale?

If any people from your community are interested in following along and spectating, you can find the game thread here: mafiauniverse.com/forums/threads/3255-Season-3-Final-Game-The-Koopa-Troop-DAY-ONE

The OP post contains a spoiler box called "Threadmarks". Inside this, a table of links to important events will be automatically generated. I.e. it will link to the various day and night starts, for example, making it easier for spectators to get an overview of the game. Day 1 ends tonight at 8 PM EST.

If you'd also like to chat with other spectators about the game, we have a huge chat on Skype with almost 200 people. If you're a social butterfly, this is also just a great opportunity to talk with other mafia/werewolf enthusiasts about whatever - it's a very friendly bunch. Join this chat by adding me on Skype: thingyman (the one with a picture).

Additionally, you can also join the on-site spectator thread by*PM'ing "Thingyman" on the site. Note that activation emails will probably go to your spam folder. If you are having trouble with anything, try PM'ing me here.

Hydra event interest?

At least a dozen different communities this year expressed an interest in a so-called "hydra event". If you don't know what "hydra" means, it's when two people share the same account (two heads). So the idea is that each participating community can send a hydra of two players, the advantage of which is that it's maybe easier to be active when two players are both playing on the same account, and it's also just a lot of fun.

If you are interested in participating in such an event, do let me know and I'll start making a list of interested communities. I don't expect all 135 communities to participate in this at all, so it'll most likely be a smaller thing and obviously it will just be for fun.

I wouldn't want a sunfan/danceguy hydra, I don't think I would want to participate at all, I'm gonna try to focus on school this semester.

I think a Xiz/Charu hydra would make me happy, or something along those lines
