Video Game Annoyances
In this thread, post things that some video games do that annoy you.
Mine: RPGs which don't display any health meter or HP number whatsoever on enemies nor any indicator or means so you have no idea relatively how "well" you are doing or even if you're wasting your time attacking an invincible foe. It's particularly bad in long, drawn-out battles. Rapid-click based games, where how well you do isn't determined so much by skill as it is how fast you can click your mouse button. Money-based games, where how well you do isn't determined so much by skill as how much money you've put into it. (The "best" player will be the one that put the most money into it, not the most skilled) Grind-based games, where in order to practically get anywhere you have to grind for long amounts of time. A little bit is okay but if 90% of the game is grinding, no. Adventure games with unintelligent requirements. Basically adventure game genre is supposed to follow logical thinking but sometimes they are instead just arbitrary. Closely related is the dreaded pixel hunt. Also closely related is failure to accept synonyms or other equivalent meaning text in text-based games. Games which require you to purchase/own some other game in order to fully complete that first game. Closely related is games which require DLC in order to fully complete them. Games which force tutorials on you. Games which don't let you skip text, cutscenes, etc... Games which are ruled more by luck than by skill. "Defend the castle" type games. Catapult type games. Unacceptable lag in games. Real Time Strategy (RTS) games -- just can't stand that entire genre. Food server type games and similar (click on ingredients, make food, give to correct customers, etc...) |

Nah that counts. It's a video game annoyance right? Annoying characters I'd call it.

Yeah a lot of it will be personal preference as well. No hate meant towards people who like particular games.
For example, lots of people like RTS games. I just don't. And heck, maybe something you hate about games will be something I like/etc... It's a lot of personal preference. |

When I don't get that K.O. on Super Smash Bros. Melee that I deserve.
When the game unexpectedly freeze on you for whatever reason especially during a boss fight or something that requires full attention. |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
The only game I can think of which would qualify would be the first Jurassic Park game for the SNES. (I'm sure there's others though). Most long SNES games had save slots and most of the ones that didn't had some kind of password system (Like some of the earlier NES games had).
But yeah Jurassic Park could take hours to complete and that's if you knew exactly what you were doing, and did things optimally and were pretty good at the game. Valid complaint for that game in particular. |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
1. Games that are long and have shitty stories and/or battle systems. I don't wanna sit playing an 80HR game with a battle system that makes me feel like killing myself over, or a story that makes me feel like punching the writer in the face for having a lack of creativity. Especially in RPGs.
2. In RTSes when you have to click on something to access it -- It makes you slower, and especially when the AI can just access it within a split second 3. Bad AI, especially in FPSes where the AI has perfect aim. This pisses me off so much. 4. RPGs with a lot of grinding for a boss, and then grinding for the next boss after that and so on. It's so tedious and not even worth it. 5. Lag. Especially on FFR. I hate that SDG score I could get if I wasn't lagging. Even then, it's universal for all games to hate lag. |

Any game that has overly complicated controls. I just stop playing any game that uses 8 or more buttons on functions that you need all the time (in combat or with movement etc.). Especially in console games or games that are converted from console to PC <.<

Re: Video Game Annoyances
Video games that expect you to play while looking over your characters goddamn shoulder.
Why oh why must some incredibly good games force this P.O.V. ... I call it second person, and I hate second person games.

Re: Video Game Annoyances
I definitely agree with you on the one about needing to own other games to complete the first game *cough* Pokemon */cough*
Also can't stand first-person shooters that force you to play inverted, such as Armorines for the N64.

BORING STORIES.

Over the shoulder is just a very close up third-person. I agree it's a pretty annoying angle. /nitpick This is a "real" second person game, if you are interested. It's trippy: http://www.kongregate.com/games/himo...n-shooter-zato

Re: Video Game Annoyances
[Incoming brick-o-text rant. Brace yourselves.]
Repeating stages. (Inverted by rhythm games, of course.) I might like a level. I might really enjoy a level. However, if I have already beat the stage once, I really don't need to play it again. Or again. Or again. I don't understand why some games force you to repeat a level. Is it beneficial to the story? Unlikely. Does it add to the character? Doubtful. More than likely, it was placed there just to piss someone off. Like in Okami, where you have to beat the final boss over 3. ****ing. Times. And this trope especially pisses me off when a game company decides to take one stage (probably the hardest one of the pack) and spread it out across a franchise, let alone a single game. Katamari Damacy is one of the main antagonists of this topic. Anyone remember that Cowbear level from We ♥ Katamari? Where if you rolled up anything cow or bear related, you'd lose the level? Where you have to roll up a certain amount of things in less than 10 minutes just to roll up the Cowbear? You remember how difficult that was? Yeah? I hope you enjoyed that level, cause it's in 2 other games in the series as well. The only game I've played that didn't piss me off with this trope was Portal 2. Because, hey. All you really had to do was press a button. And I'm not about to get furious over one *click*. (Oh, the ironic twist.) |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
Zombies. They're in EVERY SINGLE GAME in one form or another. FFXIII has ghouls, vampires, and 50 other types, Skyrim has draugr, Halo 1-3 has the Flood, zombies were in Link's Awakening, CoD has Nazi zombies, -hell- even Mario Kart has Dry Bones, which counts.
Imo, the only time when zombies are acceptable, is when the game is based on zombies. Say, Left4Dead and Amnesia. Goddamn game devs, lrn2 originality. Dark, boring, generic corridors. Name one adventure game that doesn't have a corridor level. |
