How are you paying for college?
It's that time of year for applying to colleges and universities, but how do you plan on paying for it.
I plan on paying for it 75-80% federal loans and 20-25% out of pocket. edit: Lets bring in people who graduated. How did you pay for your education? How are you doing with it? Last edited by DotKritic; 04-1-2013 at 10:32 AM.. |

Out of pocket. Kept failing year after year, such a waste of money...

Re: How are you paying for college?
Same thing, I'm almost done with my second year of college and I've paid out of pocket for what I couldn't cover on scholarships. Which is really saying something because I've never had a job until a year and a half ago, and I had essentially no savings because my parents couldn't afford to help me on anything. When I transfer to the 4-yr I'll be doing loans for what I can't cover, since I still don't make enough to really pay off school stuff and also pay rent/etc. School + work full time is rough, just like kmay said. Life of a college kid right there though.

Re: How are you paying for college?
My first two years were at a community college, and I was working anywhere between 30-40 hours a week. Freshman year was fully covered by my scholarship, which I lost second semester by 0.02 points of my GPA. Sophomore year, I paid out of pocket. Now I'm about graduate from a university, and the last two years were paid for with federal loans/grants.

Re: How are you paying for college?
How I pay is use half of my parents money and half of it from OSAP loans from the government. I won't be getting OSAP in my September semester because I'll be below the required amount of courses of 5 to be eligible for OSAP (have to be full-time) but I will be full time in the January semester. I was originally planning to go to school for a semester in the spring/summer but then other things came up, so my graduation got delayed even further.

Re: How are you paying for college?
I go to a community college and I get all my college paid for by FAFSA grants. Basically since I'm poor I get the full amount
So my grants cover 3 terms. The cost of tuition for 3 terms is about $3,300. Books for 3 terms I will say are about 600 bucks for all 3 terms(costs about $300 per term but I get about $100 back when I sell them) I get a total of $8,800 for all 3 terms all of which I don't have to pay back unless I fail classes. I basically get like 600 bucks a month to just spend on anything I like. So basically I go to school for free and get paid like a part time job just for being poor xD When I have to transfer things won't work in my favor though(damn universities)

Re: How are you paying for college?
$155/semester out of pocket. No big deal compared to nearly everyone else. Temp work easily cover it.

Re: How are you paying for college?
Thus far I have made it through 3 years of university on scholarships and minimal parental support (read: I live at home), where I only pay out of pocket for my parking pass/textbooks.
Otherwise, that will continue through my fourth year (already obtained another $1500+ from scholarships that I applied for this semester). If necessary, I've got several thousand saved, and I'll be doing research all summer (yay NSERC grant) that will net me another $6300. It also helps that I work at the university alongside taking 5 classes... my days are hectic, but I make decent money (a grand a month from my four different jobs) for what doesn't feel like very strenuous work. That supports my espresso addiction, and generally keeps me out of trouble until pub trivia nights. |

Re: How are you paying for college?
Pay out of the pocket when I take classes. Usually about 600 per class give or take the credit hours per class.

Re: How are you paying for college?
Taking out a 20 000 dollar loan and this summer I will have about 15-20k saved up so that ;eaves me about 35-40k to pay for 4 years of school not including my 10k scholarship or working over the summers.
