McCain and Clinton win in NH
With the New Hampshire primaries coming to a close, the results are more or less in. McCain has won for the Republicans with 37% of votes, followed by Romney with 32% and Huckabee with 11%. Giuliani and Paul received 9% and 8% respectively.
As for the Democrats, Clinton pulled a stunning upset over Obama. 39% of votes went to her, with 36% going to Obama. As a note, Obama was projected to win by double-digits. Edwards placed third with 17% of votes. The result of this primary is clear: 2008 is going to be a very wild ride. Even after Super Tuesday, the races will probably still be close. I doubt we'll have anyone from either party with a particularly decisive victory on the fifth. The next primary is on January 15th, and it's in Michigan. The Democratic National Convention has announced that because MI's primary is before the fifth of February, their delegates will not be accepted at the actual convention in late August this year. The same goes for Florida, with the added threat of total nullification of delegates for those who campaign in the state (FL's primary is to be held on January 29th). |

Re: McCain and Clinton win in NH
I'm willing to bet most people around my age on this site can't stand politics. I can't either, most of the time. But this election seems to be very close, and very pivotal. It's going to direct my country's next era, so I'm very interested in it.
EDIT: And as a note, it seems that the majority of Americans in general can't stand politics. People who are truly interested in what's going on and do in-depth analysis are quite rare. Low voter turnout at the past several elections has been a problem, but this election could very well bring out as many voters as the 1860 election, when Lincoln, the second most-famous president in American history, won. If I'm not mistaken, it had the highest voter turnout in American history, though I'd have to do some research to verify that. Last edited by Relambrien; 01-8-2008 at 10:41 PM.. |

You sure are obsessed with FFR...
I've been in on understanding the candidates and their views, as well. I won't be able to vote in the primaries, but this November I will be voting for Barrack or whoever is the Democratic candidate. I was upset/surprised to find out that Hilary won NH. |

I'm sort of into politics. I'm republican. Don't bother pointing your guns, I already put up an energy barrier before I said that.
Judging by what we have going here: Clinton (wife of 1996 prez.), Obama (Islamic-American with some very upstanding ideas), Ron Paul (pwning the internet users' votes), and others, I think we may be seeing a huge recount like in the 2000 election between Bush and Gore.

Correction: Obama is a Christian. His mother was nonreligious, and his father, while officially Muslim, was (in Obama's words) a "confirmed atheist" by the time of his mother's and father's marriage. Obama himself belongs to the United Church of Christ.
As an aside, Obama's middle name is "Hussein." If more people knew this, I think he'd be seeing some decreased support. Not by much, but by a noticeable amount. |

Re: McCain and Clinton win in NH
Consideirng Obama sounds dangerously close to Osama too. XD
I say you're obsessed because whenever I'm watching something on TV and I'm on an American station there seems to be a ****load of hubbub about an election when the time is near, and Canadian stations seem to be much less obsessed from my standpoint. |

Re: McCain and Clinton win in NH
That phenomenon is probably explained by America's incredible differences in political views. Half the country leans one way, half the country leans the other. Because there's no clear-cut majority, whenever presidential elections come up, it's a really big deal.

Right. As another side note, Obama's name sounds a lot like Iraq Hussein Osama.

Re: McCain and Clinton win in NH
While I (obviously) won't be voting anytime soon, I am not quite sure who I would vote for. I'm essentially a Conservative Republican with a lot of Democratic views, and thus, choosing one person over another is not easy. If I was to choose right now, though, I would probably vote for John McCain.

Re: McCain and Clinton win in NH
Well I like politics, and I'm a Republican. I think all Americans should take it more seriously.
On a side note, wasn't the NH election one of the biggest voter turnouts in years? Last edited by Sullyman2007; 01-9-2008 at 07:29 PM.. Reason: Oops. |
