I don't get why liberalism is such a reviled idea. Oh, Obama wants to give people universal health care? FUCEN LIBERAL SCUM! Hey look, the economy crashed because of George Bush's politics for 8 years. LETS BLAME OBAMA, STUPID LIBERAL. So you want to make student loans more affordable, huh? PUSSY LIBERALLLL

Also, I don't know if any of you have read about Romney's running mate, but Paul Ryan is a friggin batman villain if you've read about him. But in case you haven't

Ryan spins shutting down of debt commission plan, shifts the blame to Obama
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...300b_blog.html

Ryan denies taking stimulus money (you know, that emergency $700B plan that Bush signed?).
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/08...dit_dailyintel

Ryan screws over the middle class by increasing their taxes, while giving millionairs more tax breaks
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/201...class-warfare/

Ryan would deny abortion rights for women who were raped (not the worst thing I've heard about the subject though, remember Rick Santorum?)
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/201...who-are-raped/

These are just a few examples I can think of at this time. I understand how conservatives usually appeal to the economic side of things...but not this year. Not at all.

Pretty much this. If I was a US citizen I'd totally register just to hope we get Obama, as much as I don't like him as much as I want to. Just Romney has been showing himself to be not even as good as Obama.

(I'll be honest if you really want to make sure, to be safe register and vote for Obama anyways. There's a lot of people with the same ideology of "my vote won't matter as much", but that's what gets people not elected in the end. That's what happened here in Canada and the NDP party with Conservatives)

I don't have a stake in this since I'm like half the world away lol (although I do identify with liberal beliefs more) but I've been following this horse race with interest. Romney's been catching up with Obama steadily over the past few weeks, and now on the back of the winds from RNC he's about dead even.

It'll be interesting to see how much of a push the DNC will give Obama (usually it's about +3-4 for these conventions). Whatever it is, he's going to need to hold on to it at least until the debates.

I don't really want to vote for either of them. Should I even bother voting this election?

Obama isn't terrible, but he isn't great either. He has made a lot of promise for change that just really hasn't happened, but that's not unlike politicians to make promises they can't keep. I don't think he's particularly noteworthy or anything in that regard. And I do think the race card helped him big time to win the previous election. I just view him as overall very mediocre.

On the other hand, I don't like how religiously-focused the Republican side tends to be. Religion should be separate from politics ala separation of church and state and all that.

So my options are third party/write-in vote, lesser of two evils vote, and declining to vote.

Third party/write-in: "Wasted" vote in the sense let's be honest -- any but the main two parties don't stand much of a chance, but perhaps useful in a sort of protest kind of way.

Lesser of two evils: I don't view either of the major party candidates to be literally evil, of course. It's just an expression. But basically, not favoring either of them, which would I rather have, all things considered? But....

Declining to vote: ...I don't think it matters that much anyway. Because my state is a very strong Republican-voting state, it's going to vote that way regardless of how I vote. Perhaps if I lived in more of a swing-vote state I would think differently about this, but a drop of blue in a sea of red or vica-versa (or a drop of any other color in either) won't make a difference I think.

You probably know this already, but this sort of defeatist mindset is the main reason about half of all registered voters don't go to the polls. Unfortunately, when you get that many people together that think "my vote won't make a difference", they do end up making a big difference. Vote third party if you have to, just don't refuse to vote.

Voting for Obama because he DID push to keep his campaign promises: Affordable health care, repeal of DADT, decline of foreign military activity and whatnot. He just had to fight Congress every step of the way, not an easy thing to do when the Speaker is a Republican.

the idea that obama and liberals are the only people who wanted healthcare reform is wrong. we def need healthcare reform, but Obamacare isn't the best answer. the bill shouldnt have been rushed through and the way it is being handled is going to throw us further into debt.

the economy has its highs and low and in 2008 it took a bad dip. Obama would try to blame bush for inheriting his mess, but GUESS WHAT the democrats held the majority in congress and wasted money up the wazoo. we blame Obama for the worst economic recovery.

watch this and it'll talk a little bit about national debt, etc. @ 2:02

idk much about making student loans more affordable bc im on scholarships so i'll look up more about that later.
