No, not really. Kill la kill takes all the standard shonen tropes and exaggerates them to the level of absurdity, to the point where its closer to satirizing typical shonen anime than it is to being one. Comparing kill la kill to typical shonen crap is like comparing Stephen Colbert to Bill O'reilly. They may appear similar at first glance and may even say a lot of the same stuff, but anyone who understands what they're watching can see that they're practically opposites.
There are other enjoyable things about kill la kill that set it apart, but they're harder to explain and more subjective.
