And in what may seem as an upset, the San Jose Sharks become the first team to move on to round 2 after sweeping the Vancouver Canucks. The Sharks outplayed them in Vancouver, took advantage of a cold goalie in game 3, and powered through in game 4 (although that last call was questionable) to take a week vacation while the Canucks ponder what could've been.

The record for this series was: 4-15

I picked the Sharks based on regular season meetings. The fact that I hate the Canucks was a bonus to the pick. I would've picked the Canucks if I thought they would win only if they weren't facing the Hawks.

Canucks have been super inconsistent and the Sharks match up well with them. Still believe I'll be going 7/8. Will probably pick against the Penguins in round 2 also unless they get the Senators. As much as I'd like them to go all the way they won't if they let the Islanders stick around like this.

I don't think anyone could have seen a Sharks sweep coming. I would have thought the Sharks took it in 6 but it was a good series nonetheless. Vancouver was too indisciplined and the Sharks powerplay made them pay for it. A little ironic that before game 4 Bieksa accuses 2 players of extreme embellishment, enough to dedicate a 10 minute interview to it, and then gets a penalty which ends up being the game tying goal.

This is probably a good thing for Vancouver though - it is a strong opportunity to shake things up and improve the franchise for the future years. Perhaps we've seen the last of Coach Bubble Gum and a few players that finish their contract this year?

In a shocking twist, yet another underdog advances as the Ottawa Senators eliminate the Montréal Canadiens with a flourish taking advantage of no Carey Price to win 6-1 and win the only battle of Canada these playoffs.
