Isaac’s theme from Golden Sun is one of the best battle themes in an RPG
Cereal box Roller Coaster Tycoon in a Reese Puff cereal box is probably the best game package that ever existed

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
Lmao I played the shit out of that crunchling adventure game. I wanted to get the buffest blue crunchling the world had ever seen. Was pretty cool once you levelled up.
On that note, a few other cereal box games I had: The Game of Life (good), Yahtzee, Monopoly, Sorry, uhh I guess all board games??? A few others I don’t remember. Anyone remember Sonic’s Schoolhouse? Fucking terrifying as a kid

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
so little developers actually understand what difficulty means. "hard" games usually end up annoying and frustrating rather than challenging.
the good hard: dark souls the bad "hard": nier automata (honestly, the difficulty settings make no sense)((obviously the game is not meant to be difficult in the first place so maybe it's not a fair comparison)) Last edited by riktoi; 11-29-2018 at 12:48 PM.. |

the NES megaman games are literal garbage. not hard, in fact you'd have to be genuinely retarded to actually die even once in megaman 2, but the level design is fucking atrocious and filled with random weak enemies that exist just to hit you unexpectedly and slow you down, which is just annoying without actually adding difficulty. |

Also I have dabbled in the Osu editor, and I'd have an easier time going a whole day without offending literally anyone, than make any piece of content that's somewhat decent with that pos. |

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
the term RPG is used too liberally to describe any game with experience point or ability systems
RPG is a genre, not a progression system |

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
worst part about undertale is that people keep comparing it to earthbound
Edit: Earthbound is a game about kids with powers in 1990's america who are destined to either stop an impending alien invasion or die trying Undertale is about a kid who falls down a hole and keeps getting attacked by monsters who call him a monster when he just wants to be left alone and go home just because both contain witty dialogue and developer jokes doesn't mean they're the same

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
I just find it weird that someone who can appreciate earthbound despite all its flaws would hate on undertale.

Red dead redemption isn't fun immersive maybe but it's not fun. Too slow paced and really annoying that the npc's interactions can prevent you from taking a break by dynamically shoving 2 or 3 missions on you with just a simple visit to the camp.

Grinding is a bad mechanic in its entirety and should be shamed upon when it is part of the core game experience.

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
But grinding and leveling up gives me a sense of progression and accomplishment. I think it becomes a problem with modern games that reduce xp rates in favor of customers purchasing microtransactions to make things faster. A good balance of grinding in rpg's is welcome imo as long as it's not ridiculous to the point of you not being able to continue parts of the game and making you play tedious side missions before you can progress *cough* assassins creed *cough*

Re: Unpopular gaming opinions thread
Never said leveling was an issue, but you got it kind of half right what I'm trying to get across.
The biggest ploy of my argument is grinding for essential equipment, party members, money, or just items in general in order to progress past a seemingly impassable barrier that blocks off a majority of the core game, is not a fun mechanic and can get highly repetitive and boring for even the most hardcore players. It can seem fun at first with the possible luck involved, and the rush of finally getting what you need. However, I find in my experience that everyone eventually topples and gives up in the end. I think a much better suitable game style would be that for competitive multiplayer purposes, allow grinding. And for casual single player purposes, allow people to gain progress at a steady pace, infinitely. Have them together in the same game, but keep them separate. If it's an RPG for example, assign PvP listed items that are applicable to multiplayer, with equipment stat rolls so the grind is always there, that drop both in multiplayer and single player (but more so in multiplayer). Include leaderboards and rankings so its competitive. Assign PvE items that are only applicable to singleplayer, with equipment stat rolls that are forever scaling based on level and enemy level that also scales with your level, so the progression is always there, that drop in both modes (but more so in singleplayer).
