But nobody wanted revolutionary design; we wanted an upgraded Halo 1, and that's what we got.
Maybe you didn't want Halo 2 to be as revolutionary as the first one (read: not at all), but tons of fans did. Everybody treated this game like the second coming of christ, not an expansion pack (which is essentially what it is). I've heard fans complaining about the lack of new content in Halo 2. Nobody wanted an upgrade, they wanted a sequel.

Quote:
If there had been an engine overhaul, that would have pissed off far too many fans.
That's entirely different than a game overhaul, since engine deals with the graphics and nothing else. Nobody plays console games for graphics, anyway.

And IMO, Halo 2 engine =/= Halo 1 engine. There was and engine overhaul.

Quote:
Did Halo 1 deserve a platinum award (three tens)? Yes.

Quote:
Does Halo 2? No.
I like how your logic doesn't make sense here. Halo 2 is a better game, so it should get...a worse score? Organize your thoughts, man.

And a second IMO, I get EGM too, I love the mag, but they're up there with Gamespot and PSM when it comes to letting hype effect their reviews. Their reviews pretty much revolve around hype. It wasn't coincidence that both Halo 2, the most anticpated game for Xbox and subject of massive debate, got the same perfect score as GTA:SA, the most anticipated game for PS2 and subject of massive debate.

Quote:
And about the mags rating it high so that their subscribers wouldn't cancel, that's complete and utter bullshit. When one of the reviewers gave PSO a four or a six, I didn't throw the magazine to the ground, piss on it, then go cancel my subscription.
Then maybe you're more level headed than the average reader. If you don't think that the reviews the magazines put out affect their sales, you're deluding yourself.

Quote:
Honestly, though, who goes to a game review website to be entertained? I expect reviews to be informative, not entertaining (save Seanbaby, but that's a different matter). I'm dumbfounded that you would let yourself be taken in by such bad logic, Anti.
ya ok

"So did you hear about the new review Gamecrap gave Grand Theft Halo? They said it was way better. Get online and see."
"No way, Metroid Auto is so much better. I'm logging on now."
"Look at this one dude's post, what a moron. I'm calling (insert fanboy), he has to see this."
"K, I'll call (insert fanboy #2). OMG! LOOK AT THIS GUY! I'm totally flaming him."

Millions of gamers flock to websites to chat, discuss and flame about their favorite games. Meanwhile, the websites themselves are loving it, because their hits triple and suddenly advertisers are beating down their doors. They get more money for their six story houses, and every time they can't afford a new Mercedes they simply pump out another bs review, rub their hands, and smily grimly as the millions of idiots play right into their hands. Open your eyes, Guido- I'm suprised that you let yourself be fooled with such bad logic.

That doesn't make it a bad game.

People that think it was over-hyped, I don't have a problem with. It was overhyped, and the gameplay was not revolutionary in any way.

There is no way that you can support that it is indeed a bad game. It was put together extremely well, and I think Bungie did a great job in producing an improvement to Halo 1.

However, people who go with the trend of saying "Halo 2 sux!!", I do have a problem with. It is a lot of fun and has hours of multiplayer replay value.

The reason I find it fun is the extremely balanced weapons. If you use good tactics, you can counter the sniper or the guy with the rocket launcher. Also, Halo 2 online with friends is amazingly fun.

And isn't that incredible, 87x? The online statistics are awesome...[/i]

Lupin wins.

@ Anticrombie: You're dead wrong, sir. "That's entirely different than a game overhaul, since engine deals with the graphics and nothing else. Nobody plays console games for graphics, anyway. " You must not know much about games. The best example I can think of is Half-Life versus Half-Life: Source, the remake of it doen on the Half-Life 2 engine. Graphically, there are NO differences, whatsoever. Gameplay, it's very different. Engines have nothing to do with graphics, seeing as there are many, many games build of the same game engines with greatly differing graphics, but gameplay.

rofl hahaha

Jesus christ, your post better be a joke.

Have you played Half Life: Source? Obviously not, since you'd know that it looks a world better. The water effects are the same incredible ones seen in Half-Life 2, the Havok physics engine and ragdolls are just as good, the dynamic lighting and specular is spectacular, and they finally implemented the ability to do all sorts of nifty graphics tweaks for those of us with better GPUs like FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering.

Meanwhile, it's a DIRECT FREAKING PORT. They made NO gameplay alterations whatsoever. I don't know what the fuck you're playing, but it ain't Half-Life: Source.

Quote:
Engines have nothing to do with graphics
HAHAHA

YOUR POST GETS FUNNIER AND FUNNIER

Seriously, this is a joke. It has to be. Seriously, quote my post and say "wow you're gullible," because I honestly didn't think somebody as clueless as you still had the intelligence to learn how to turn on their computer. Wow.

You honestly think that the game engine, the FUCKING CODE THAT RUNS THE GAME, has nothing to do with graphics? What the fuck do you think the Source engine is? You know, that revolutionary engine with the really cool specular lighting and water effects and facial animations? That has jack shit to do with gameplay, yet, guess what? IT'S THE HALF-LIFE 2 GAME ENGINE.

I love how you tell me that I know nothing about games. You seriously made my day, right there. Props, man.

Sorry for the double post but I just got done reading this entire thread. This is sad just sad. The Xbox was made for the average consumer that wants to play games. That's why it's easily affordable by them. The thing is since it is so cheap of a price it's not going to have graphics that could ever compare to that of the $1200 dollars you people spend to play your simple upgrade of HL2. Since the xbox doesn't have the hardware some of you have that means it can't sustain as great of graphics as your computer can. It loads the textures in game because Bungie did not want to make loading times too long. For example: all of the cinematics in the game is rendered on real time instead of having it prerendered and inserted into the disk. The game itself is incredibly fun. There is nothing like it. No I'm not being a fan boy and trying to defend it. I do have a top of the line computer. I do have Half life 2 and CS:source (comes with it obviously) and there is absolutely nothing astounding with it. CS: Source is just a graphical upgrade. "Whoopde doo, now the gun I shoot is prettier." See Bungie didn't want to make the same game with graphical upgrades but instead made the game something else. Something more fun. Graphics are not always what makes games great. Look at Doom3, beautiful graphics but boring gameplay. Speaking of graphics whoever said that the engine doesn't have anything to do with the graphics is a moron and is speaking as if he knew what he is talking about. So don't sit there and say the game sucks because the game isn't as pretty as your CS or any other game you play because I can pretty much garuntee that all the people here that bash Halo 2 probably never played it for more the 5 mins.

I played it for 45 minutes, and sure it was fun. But it was just ok, not something special. You all are the idiots that payed 40 or 50 bucks for a handful of new guns and maps. My friend bought the game, and beat the single player campaign his first time playing the game. Sounds fun..? I'd rather save my money and get a real FPS, like HL2.

Halo 2 isnt really anything new, it isnt uber innovative either. It is not a bad game though, and it can be a worthwhile thing to play sometimes. I dont know how people can say it is horrible, or that it is one of the best FPS's either.

Don't have an XBox so I don't have Halo 2. I got to play it once at CAGE club (gaming club at my high school) but the next week somebody from teh Board of Education found out about it and they issued some decree saying no M-rated games, specifically pointing out Halo.

I must say, from my hour or so playing I found that it was better balanced than Halo 1 and had a much better network system. I will agree, however, that it was definitly overhyped. That happens with a lot of games though, so I won't get worked up about it. Halo is a decent game. It's nothing special, but it's not like it's the worst piece of junk ever. I've played better and I've played worse. I just have to say that the only thing worse than people who love a game because of good press are people who hate a game for the same reason. Seriously, it's not that bad, quite jumping on it.

Anyways, I didn't know there was the online stat thing. Somebody said it shows screenshots taken from the game. Are these automatically done by the game itself and how does it work? I didn't know about this other new stuff and would like some info about it.

X-box owners just have nothing else to play, because all the other games are crap. So when one mediocre game comes along, they all wet their pants.

Agreed! Halo 2 is pretty much nothing to be proud of, performance wide. I think Halo 2 was meant more for multiplayer than it was for anything else. The Multiplayer is decent, but I still prefer Unreal Tournament 2004.

Like the people are saying above, there is nothing new about Halo 2, plain and simple. The graphics look almost the same, maybe a little bit of enhancing, the weapons...suck. The vehicles are fun to an extent.

Now, if you want a game thats original, you need Metal Gear Solid 3. I can name four qualities that are new about. If they aren't then they have imporved them greatly.
1) Camouflage Index
2) Eat to Survive(not some BS Sims crap)
3) CQC (Close Quarter Combat)
4) A GOOD story(Unlike one game that begins with an H and ends with an 'ALO')

Meh, I use a program that tricks the X-Box that it is using System Link, when it really connects through the internet. I dotn have to pay that way, and I get big games all the time. I am debating whether to get X-Box Live for Christmas though, what other benefits are there to having live?

Yeah, okay, so my post was a little harsh. But I was in a thread with a bunch of Halo fanboys, trying to argue my points, and when somebody gives me gold to work with, I make a ring. I figured you were in the Halo fanboy ranks, and you have to admit, your post was pretty bad. I saw an oppertunity to argue my point and jumped on it- it's the equivalent of the defendant of the murder trial admitting something case winning. That wasn't a 'misunderstanding', Laharl, come on.

You should have quoted my post and said "God you're Gullible." Do that next time.

This thread mad me sad.
@fanboys: Shut up, it isn't that great
@people who bash the game because of the fanboys: Shut up, don't base your review off of people and not the game.
@emccky: You are very wrong. Halo2 isn't the only good game for X-Box. NFS Underground 2 is fun if you like racing games. Guilty Gear 2 is fun if you like Fighting Games. Fusion Frenzy, although old, is one of my favorite party games.

Granted there are those who just don't like FPS's or Halo 2, but I have yet to see someone on this thread that didn't like Halo 2 because of the gameplay. I just saw people bitching about it being over hyped and whining about fanboys being narrow-minded. That has everything to do with the game, doesn't it. I know that it isn't innovative, but it's fun.

Personally I think that Xbox didn't have that many great games when Halo came out. That's why it was so over hyped. Do i think its a bad game? No not at all i think its a great first person shooter.eh..story mode..Not the best ive seen on a game but sure ill take it. So when people heard that Halo 2 was coming out they based it on their standards of Halo, which werent very high. Yes i totally agree that Halo 2 was more of an upgrade than a sequal. It had minor tweaks...its not like they changed the entire set up of the game to make it seem brand new (which in my opinion would piss me off to the point where i would send some letters to bungie)..Take Metroid Prime 2 for instance...Not totally remade from the first Prime but they do have an entirely new story, visor set up, beam set up, and some other minor things. Thats basically all that happend with Halo 2..Yes i do beleive that multiplayer kicks ass. Sometimes people over hype Halo and Halo 2 alot. Im not stupid enough like some people to just buy Xbox to buy those 2 games. Since my bro does have a Xbox however I do like to play that with some Ninja Gaiden and Sports games to say the least. PS2 does have some bad graphics in cetain games because it is older than the others. Gamecube is just making sequals or remakes of their older games like their newer version of Zelda coming out sometime in june 2005. They all do have great games though. Oh and good job to whoever started this thread. Very impressive score!
