not sure what your point is here.

a lot of foreign people listen to american pop even though they don't understand the lyrics. in fact, my cousins in germany can actually sing songs in english despite not knowing what they're singing.

my best guess is that you've never left the united states, so your general ignorance is making this judgment.

I don't really listen to the lyrics even if the song is in english. It is pretty much the least important aspect of a song to me in most cases.

Edit: And when I say listen I really mean something like recognize them for their meaning. The voice of the person singing can be a great part of the song, but I don't really care what words they use.

I don't really like music that has all of the emotion/meaning behind it in the lyrics instead of the music itself.

Shame on you two. A good catchy song comes along and you still can't open your ears to it. What makes music isn't the complexity or the harmony, it's the feelings it goes with it. Gangnam Style obviously brings a lighthearted feeling with it and you're really not supposed to take it too seriously.

That said it's still a really good song imo. Which is weird coming from me, because I bash music today really hard and often.

It's just their opinion. I like the song; it's catchy and if you understand it, is a clever parody. Sorta reminds me of weird al content wise (but not musically of course).

I wouldn't join the (gay cuz poplar) bandwagon. This isn't high school guys.

Agreed with this. I enjoyed the tune with ~1 million or so views and still love it when I hear it now that it has over 100 million views, or most of the parodies that were created based on Gangnam style. It is catchy, has a simple yet goofy dance, a funny video and from what I understand or know, some clever lyricism. Basically all the makings for a viral video, which it has rightfully become.

That being said, I encourage you guys to check out some of PSY's other tunes that I actually enjoy even more than Gangnam Style.
(such as RIGHT NOW from PSYFIVE)

I love Gangnam Style, not only because the song is catchy as **** and he's a pretty good singer, but seriously in the video you can just tell he's having a lot of fun. So in that sense I really like it.

But yeah you guys shouldn't only listen to Gangnam Style, his other tunes are great. Listen to Korea at least, the song he did for the London Olympics, that song and video is great (not funny, just really nice to see how much he loves Korea)

I'm not heading into an argument or anything but I just want to remember you that music standards are absolutely subjective. I concede, the song has it's charm and is quite entertaining, but it does not mean it is forced to appeal to everyone. We should all try to mention our opinion without trying to define do's and don'ts. (Sorry pseudo, don't get me wrong, you're awesome but this type of thinking infuriates me. While emotions are usually the way to go, there's much complexity in what defines music to somebody, which would be close-minded to say the opposite)

Btw, I dislike this song. And of course, I've recognized how much catchiness is involved in this, or how much it scales on the danceable meter. But the current state of the pop music just doesn't do it for me and this is why I shouldn't even be posting in this thread. I blame the industry, not the artists, but that's another story. (In another note, as a pop song, Gangnam Style is extreeeeemely well-made. May be simple, but well made)

LOVE this song...honestly, after first hearing about it, it sounded like one of those annoying songs that would get stuck in your head and then you hate yourself for listening to it. Quite the opposite! ^___^
I did indeed do my research of what the whole song is really about and I actually found it even better now that I understand what his idea is all about :P Not only is the song quirky and fun, it shows that South Korea has found a pretty awesome character like Psy himself :3

it's a big deal for Korea who usually doesn't like parodies such as this. Psy is quite the outrageous fellow himself if you look at his track record

Well, Korea in itself is not used to such musical exposure in the occidental regions, so the whole artist is quite the fuss. Add to the fact that it is becoming a cultural phenomenon internationally,. Really a random event for Korea with the current Hallyu (Korean Wave)

It's a catchy song.
Well-produced, actually pretty interesting chord progressions (for a pop song) if you listen to it closely. Fun goofy dance and clever subtext don't hurt either.
Good stuff.
