As long as something like this doesn't create twice the amount of lag already present in MP, I FULLY support this idea.

But of course for that to happen, this would have to happen too:

Don't forget forum titles being applicable in MP! That would be a cool perc.
ie, Velo your name would be red, Who cares would be yellow etc etc.

One major way Lag will be reduced is by not rendering the arrows or accuracy of the other player(s).
I'm pretty sure Velo is going to do that.

The thing about ranks / exp is it's based on a chess style ranking system, where it's 1v1, having more players doesn't fit into that ranking style.
If more then 2 players is added, it will result in a unranked game till I can figure out the ranking system. Synth was the one that put it all together.

Are viewers going to be able to watch people play the songs instead of just watching the scores as they're tallied?

That'd be awesome

Perhaps even allowing you to watch certain people's game plays that you pick beforehand, that way you aren't loading all the players' games at once every song.

It seems like the MP ranking system is pretty well explained here. It tells about how MP experience is gained, lost, calculated, how much to the next level, etc.

If you wanted to keep the same ranking system, it could just be a more complex demonstration of this...as an example:
4 people are in a game room, a level 12, a 7, a 13, and an 15 and they all play the song, Cash Cow. Lets say the 15 AAA'd, the 12 got 2 goods, and 13 got 5 goods, and the 7 got 14 goods. This would mean the scorers would go as follows: 7, 13, 12, 15

Then loss / win factors could be calculated between the 4th and 3rd, 3rd and 2nd, and 2nd and 1st place:
4th place loses 50*.6 = 30 exp
3rd place gains 30 exp; then loses 110*.95 = 104.5 exp (-74.5 total)
2nd place gains 104.5 exp; then loses 80*.9 = 72 exp (+32.5 total)
1st place gains 72 exp

The same thing can be done with any amount of players, just a bit more math coding.

I don't think many people would see the harm in letting MP ranks go. Yea, a lot of people have earned their 20+ ranks, but there's no meaning behind them. If there was, then maybe more people wouldn't want them to go.

And I agree with Ninty, it would be more fun if you're a viewer in the room to be able to watch the song.

MP rankings can't be removed completely. They unlock a token song. Well, unless you change the requirements for the song.

I also completely disagree that they're meaningless. If we didn't have MP rankings, how would you know who's around your skill level?

Quick note on Ranks, if you know of a scalable ranking system that supports multiple people at once, tell me about it. We can't get rid of ranks, but we can also rebuild them with a new system if enough people want.

this could also help with having multiple types of games where ranks are used.

I'm not exactly sure how exp is gained n stuff but if you consider a 4 person game -- 2nd place wins half the exp they would normally win and 3rd place loses half the exp they would normally lose

Just a suggestion... 8 person game would be 1/4 intervals instead of 1/2 and so on.

Totally random, but is there anyone with the appropriate power that intends to eventually go in and fix the sync'ing on songs? I know that's what the offset feature is for, but it's a little tedious sometimes... :S

Make 3-4 player games unrated until a new system is implemented, should fix that logistics problem :P, now how about the other dozen?
