Full update coming no later than 24 hours from now. I've let this thread go untouched for a bit too long now.

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
Halogen would you like an easy access permissions adder/editor in PHP? You could search for old permissions, browse permissions by first letter, etc...
And add comments, websites, alt names, specific songs, etc... The public would have similar access to this tool, but without the editing. Just advanced searching. ;D

for the love of god yes, PLEASE. It's so easy to lose permissions when people post threads about awesome grabs but never relay the information here.

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
Do certain genres of music get rejected since they won't appeal to a high percentage of players?
Songs by bands like The Devil Wears Prada, and other Metal-Type bands? |

Typically, music of that style is harder to chart; variable BPMs, long song lengths -- we don't discourage the charting of that kind of music, but there's much more that can be scrutinized in songs like those.

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
Okay thanks guys. Good to know. Any thoughts on a Metal Batch? Or any other kind of music of that type? I know It's only one genre but I would like to see some more in-game. Maybe I'll just try stepping myself and submitting I guess...

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
I wouldn't mind seeing a "live music" batch which would lead mostly to live rock or classical files. But that might be unnecessarily taxing on people who are not used to syncing that kind of thing, so I guess it won't happen.

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
I do like the idea of specialized batches, but the thought of more 8ft 4min rock songs makes me sick.
Unless they're good. Get more As I Lay Dying in. Somebody step 94 Hours, that song has great trill material at 1:20ish.

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
We really do need some more classical and better rock songs. People really need to stop worrying about the length because they dont want to have to AAA it or whatever. =\

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
I'm against specialized batches of a certain genre. If you think a certain genre is lacking, you go ahead and step songs from those genres for any regular batch.

The point of the special batches is to promote whatever the batch is for, right? I don't think genre specific batches is necessary at all, as opposed to difficulty/new-artist batches, though. |

Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
Not quite.
The distribution of song difficulties is far more important than what song is being stepped because the game depends on a balance of difficulties. On a side note, I can bet that the songs coming in will be relatively diverse enough to prevent something as desperate as a need to fill up a certain genre of music. Forcing people to step a certain genre of music is not only a lot more of a bore (to both simfile authors and the audience who may dislike the genre), but it's also difficult to determine if the songs fit relatively into the proper genre before they've been accepted. Re: Artist Blanket Permissions v5
Sent a permission request to Jordan Rudess for one of his solo piano albums...probably a ridiculous permission attempt, but what's the worst that can happen other than a no?
