If you haven't beaten FF7, there is no point in you watching this movie.
You'll have no idea what's going on.

rofl. Super, the only reason to watch this movie is for the fight scenes which means beating FF7 doesn't even matter.

I just rented the English version and it was so good, since i love all of Final Fantasy games, it's pretty cool to see a movie finally coming out of all of them.

I liked when Tifa was beating up on that one guy (Kazu was it?). Tifa kicks major ass. I thought the voices were annoying (especially Yuffie and Cid... ick). I think the story was there to justify the wonderful fight scenes they decided to throw in.

The minute I heard Tifa speak in English I cringed. The second I listened to how she was say what she was saying I cried.

If you've played FFVII and understood it then the story in the movie is very coherent and important.
Everyone says the story was dumb. It really isn't you just don't understand it. Probably because you didn't play the game. The voices weren't that bad. Of course they're going to seem off and the timing will be weird but that's because it was made in Japanese first.

Lol. I found the video. AND I have beaten the game around 4 or 5 times. I will have to check my memory card. I am going to let the video buffer all night and I will watch and download it. I haven't seen it yet except in japanese. And the japanese version I saw was low quality and they all had horrible voices that were like an octave to high....

And the reason it doesn't make sense is simple: They don't explain anything. Instead of following a general tradition of good filmmaking, telling the viewer what the hell is going on, Square-Enix opted instead to fill the movie with battle scenes that get old fast. Not to mention the totally random retconning. Sup Rufus (even though you died in FF7 and it's stated in the game that you did). FF7's plot isn't anything to write home about, either. It suffers from a lot of the problems that AC does; i.e., a lot of stuff is never explained, stuff is thrown in for no reason to make it more exciting, etc. However, it also has a horrible translation, which renders a lot of things nigh-incomprehensible. AC, at least, doesn't have that working against it. So yeah. They both suck, and neither one will help you understand the other. |

Moogy does have a point though. SquareEnix did throw in that random crap just to set up some fight scenes. For example, the kidnapping of Marene was completely pointless, other then drawing cloud into another pointless fight (it was pretty cool though...) Aeris was totally random, and it was only there (at least it felt this way) to sorta tie back to the game. I think the main thing though was that the movie was entertaining and that is all that really matters right?
