How is an 8th Grader supposed to do an oral report on that damn thing?
Because I had to. But when I finished the book, I was like "WTF wuz teh point of taht???" so I switched to Raisin in the Sun at the last second.

Seriously, it's this nagging question that won't go away.
I read it this year, it's pretty easy to relate to communism if you think about. If I had to do a report I'd compare the theme of the book to communism.

I actually really liked the book when I thought about it that way.

EDIT: You know, the whole loss of individuality, being completely ruled by the government or higher power, everyone is equal and recieves just enough to survive. Basically the opposite of capitalism, in theory it's the ultimate solution, but due to the nature of humans... not even close.

I <3 1984 and Animal Farm. And also the satire essay he wrote on how to make a cup of tea.
