Wow, people. You don't have to like math to do this.
It's run by itself, so it doesn't have anything to do with you while it's running. Besides, it supports FFR (kinda). So do it.

For those that have stated in the thread that they are a part of this and/or have already signed up...make sure your points are working towards the team. We've only got 4 listed (See below)
If you used your real e-mail for the signup, you should have gotten an e-mail telling you your password. Login and select "Team FFR" from the "Team Affiliation" page. Then you're REALLY working for FFR without actually doing anything... Here's the list. Quote:

The site says team stats are updated every day about midnight CST. Now, I don't know about the members for each team, as Squeek signed up today, but after I read that tnyhwk and Squeek signed up, I checked and their names weren't on the list (though Squeek's is, now). I dunno.
Lessee, Deltro, 87x, Squeek, and I have all said we've joined. Who could that mysterious "ElSoyokaze" be? Happy deducing... --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Sheesh... I seriously thought I was making good progress until now.
I've figured out what this program does. Basically, it assigns you a "k" number and an "n" number. Then it sends you blocks of data to calculate those numbers within the formula given. If you notice within the program it tells you block percentage and something called "full test" percentage. Well, unfortunately, "full test" is the FULL amount of time it takes to computer those two numbers within the formula just to check if it's prime. That's right. You're taking away only one possibility in about a week's time. This is an insane amount of computation occuring here. I have it set on "high" to take it down as fast as possible and in five hours I've seen a total progress of 4.5%. Just checked the logs. I've done almost 60 blocks in that 5 hours. I have over 1,250 to go. HERE I GO. ~Squeek |

Are you serious? It's taken me 7 1/2 hours to do 25. =/
I didn't have it on full power though.

Not overall, dude. We're about 278 or so compared to ALL the other teams. We haven't moved much, and until we get a lot more people, we won't.

CONFIRMED.
You have to do the following to ensure your hard work is adding to the value of TEAM FFR. Make sure that when you made your account you told the program your correct e-mail. An e-mail will be sent to you with your password. To login, go here. http://www.seventeenorbust.com/login/ Once logged in, click "Preferences". From there, find "Team Affiliation". Click the link at the end of the paragraph and find "Team FFR" in the drop-down menu. Once selected, that should be it. Now you're working for us! Edit - 87x, we're going to be moving up at least 70 ranks. ~Squeek PS - Since Tny just did it, it seems that your "solo" work is carried over into the team when you do the above. All is not lost from your first go with the program when you did not know about how to really sign up for a team. Just get on the team as soon as you can so you can see your real status as compared with the rest of the FFR Team. PPS - |

Okay, here's what I understand:
A Sierpinski number is a k value which will yield a prime number if it is multiplied by a number 2^n and has one added to it (i.e. k2^n+1. Parenthesis used appropriately; remember order of operations.). There were seventeen candidates under 78557, and Seventeen or Bust has narrowed those down to eleven by finding an n value for six of the k values. If there can be found an n value for each of the remaining eleven, the Sierpinski conjecture will be proven. Until then, the search will go on, hence the name "Seventeen or Bust". As Squeek said, they send you one k value (of the eleven remaining) and one n value. You devote many many hours of computations for that one value. If it's not prime, you get another n value. If it is prime, you will be quite recognized by the community of people who really care. I'm currently working on k=10223 and n=6531461. So, if (10223 x 2^6531461)+1 is prime, the number of candidates will be reduced to ten, getting ever closer to proving the conjecture. Hey, Squeek, how did you set whatever it was to "high"? All I can see to change is the priority from Normal to Low to Idle. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Gah...second person to ask.
When I said "high", I meant "the highest it can go", AKA Normal. My K value is 33661 and the N value is 6,915,888. Guido, read my last post on page two to verify that your time spent is going towards our team. Tny just did it and it updated him into the list instantly. ~Squeek |

c'mon now, I think this deserves a sticky, and ,.. like maybe a news thing.. not only do we get free advertising, but we have the chance of solving an age old math problem, maybe getting FFR in math books, records,... tell me that wouldn't be cool XD XD XD

Yea, and also confirmed.. that if you set the SB prog's priority to normal in the actuall program and then set it to high on your task manager, it will complete the blocks a lot faster...
Here are some little test's I have preformed as proof of this.. (all percentages are taken from a 10 second time period) -Prog settings -Task Manager Settings -Results Idle Normal 1.1% blck Low Normal 1.4% blck Normal Normal 1.7% blck Idle High 1.3% blck Low High 1.9% blck Normal High 2.1% blck I didn't dare try doing those on real time because im afraid my comp would freeze just for moving my mouse over top of the "realtime" button... I had to record the times for low and normal percentages on high setting with my cell phone... because it was messing up my clock on the computer.. Those little differences might not seem like much written down like that.. but when dealing with such a big equation, that little extra .3% or .6% can make a huge difference in time.. Just for reference Im using a 1.6 ghz p4... 512 ddr ram... 80 gig hd (if that had anything to do with it)... Well.. Im going to keep mine on idle(sb prog) - Normal(task manager), settings until I get off then im going to turn it up to Normal(sb prog) - High(task manager) to run through the night.... BTW, I still have my fan setup in front of the computer to keep it cool, lol, Probably not making a difference on speed.. but is making a huge difference on comp case temperature..

Cmon, sticky it. This is the next Project Dolphin thing.
And I am so relieved it carried my work over to Team FFR. My comp had been running SB for 8 hours =P EDIT: Current k value: 21181 Current n value: 6654044

Yea, I got a total of like .8 days... as it says.. which is like 16 hours, if im reading that "24-hour user rate" chart correctly...
"EDIT" Current K= 21181 Current N= 6915860 Also.. has anyone tried running two Sb progs at the same time?

REALTIME'D.
Man this is still not enough. Got several downloads going, windows media player is on nonstop, this program is running on REALTIME on Normal mode, and I've got tons of tabs open on Opera while chatting on several different programs. What does it take to lag out this amazing peice of machinery?! ~Squeek |

Squeek's powers of deduction have fallen far below my expectations. I guess I can just come out and SAY that I'm ElSoyokaze.
And I made the mistake of putting SoB on high priority while I had five IE windows open. That REALLY slowed things down, so I'm keeping it on Normal/Normal. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |
